Description
Rehoming Profile — 7 Month Old Husky Cross
Name:
Age: 7 months
Breed: Husky cross
Sex: F
Neutered/spayed: Not yet
Vaccinations: yes
Microchipped: yes
Current location: Southampton
Reason for rehoming: Due to a change in circumstances, her current family are sadly unable to meet her ongoing needs and want to find her the right home where she can thrive.
⸻
About Her
She is a young, intelligent and energetic husky cross who is still very much a puppy. She has lots of love and affection to give and has great potential, but she needs a committed home that understands adolescent dogs and high-energy breeds.
She is best suited to someone who has experience with dogs, ideally northern breeds, working breeds or high-drive dogs. She is not a low-maintenance dog and will need structure, patience, training and daily enrichment.
⸻
Breed / Type Requirements
As a husky cross, she is likely to need:
High daily exercise
She will need more than a short walk around the block. She would suit an active home that can provide regular walks, secure off-lead exercise areas, long-line training, hiking, running when old enough, or structured activities.
Mental stimulation
Huskies are clever and can become bored quickly. She will need puzzle feeders, training games, scent work, enrichment toys, food-based activities and jobs to do.
Secure boundaries
Huskies can be escape artists. A secure garden is essential, with high fencing and no easy gaps. She should not be left unsupervised in an unsecured outdoor space.
Lead and recall awareness
Huskies can have strong prey drive and may not be reliable off-lead. Her new home should be prepared to use a long line and continue recall training safely.
Consistency and routine
She will do best with clear boundaries, calm handling and a predictable routine. She is still learning and needs someone willing to guide her kindly but firmly.
Companionship
Huskies often struggle if left alone for long periods. She may need gradual training around being left, and a home where someone is around a good amount of the time would be ideal.
⸻
Training Needs
She will need continued training in the following areas:
Basic obedience
She does Sit and ca do stay but is easily distracted. Needs training in leave it, recall, and settling calmly in new surroundings or company.
Lead walking
Needs persistent training on this but is doing well. Pulls when distracted.
Recall training
Recall should be treated as a long-term training goal. Due to her breed type, she should not be assumed safe off-lead unless in a secure enclosed area.
Impulse control
She is at an age where excitement, jumping, mouthing or over-arousal may happen. She will need ongoing work on calm greetings, waiting, settling and redirecting her energy appropriately.
Toilet training / house manners
She is toilet trained to go outside but if she’s in a new environment she may struggle initially. If you put a mat down she’ll know that’s where she should go.
Alone-time training
She can currently be left for around 20-30 mins. hours”
She struggles when left and will need gradual separation training.
⸻
Behavioural Considerations
* She is very energetic and needs an active home.
* She may become destructive if bored or under-stimulated.
* She may pull on the lead.
* She may jump up when excited.
* She occasionally mouths and chews as she is still young.
* She may have prey drive around cats and small animals.
* She may need work on calmness and settling.
* She will not be suitable for a home where she is left alone all day.
* She will need a patient owner who understands she is still an adolescent puppy.
Food
Fed raw currently
⸻
Home Required
Her ideal home would be:
* Active and outdoorsy.
* Experienced with dogs, ideally huskies or high-energy breeds.
* Able to provide daily exercise and enrichment.
* Willing to continue positive training.
* With a secure garden.
* Not planning to leave her alone for long periods.
* Prepared for the grooming and shedding needs of a husky-type dog.
* Realistic about adolescent dog behaviour.
* Committed for life, not just while she is small and cute.
⸻
Children, Dogs and Other Pets
Children:
She has met children and likes them. Like any dog, should still be supervised when around children.
Other dogs:
She may suit a home with another well-balanced dog that she can learn from.
Grooming and Care
As a husky cross, she may shed heavily, but we haven’t seen that yet as her coat is not as thick as a huskies usually is due to her being a cross breed.
She will also need ongoing veterinary care, vaccinations, flea/worm treatment, insurance or savings for vet bills, and neutering/spaying advice from a vet
We are looking for a committed, experienced and active home for a 7-month-old husky cross.
She is a beautiful, intelligent young dog with lots of potential, but she is also a high-energy adolescent who will need ongoing training, structure and daily enrichment. She is not suited to a home looking for an easy or low-maintenance dog.
Her new home must understand the needs of husky-type breeds, including high exercise requirements, mental stimulation, secure fencing, lead training, recall work and the possibility of prey drive. She may not be reliable off-lead and will need continued positive training as she matures.
She would suit an active person or family who enjoys walking, training and spending time outdoors, and who can provide consistency, patience and companionship. She should not be left alone for long periods, and her new owner must be willing to put in the work needed during her teenage stage.
This is a very difficult decision, so the priority is finding the right home where she will be understood, loved and properly cared for
