Description
We’re heartbroken that we have to re home our 7 month old Staffordshire bull terrier x American Staffordshire terrier Gus. I have recently found out I am pregnant and moved into a flat and we can’t afford to keep him. He is loving and excitable and LOVES all people but with his excitability we cant also risk our baby being hurt by accident - at no fault of his, we weren’t expecting to get pregnant but he is so jumpy and boisterous that he’s jumped on my belly multiple times out of love it’s getting dangerous for me.
He has a training session booked with the Southend dog trainer online for in May and he is already very well trained, happy to have the training session transferred to you!
Strengths/positives about Gus: He’s very well trained, knows all the main commands, crate trained and sleeps from 10pm-9am every day and has 3 long 2-3 hour naps in his crate in the day. He’s very affectionate, loves play time, loves children a little too much and loves to play with other dogs, also a little too much. Great on walks when he’s got his nose lead on, loves a long walk and running around in the field on his training lead, so well behaved out and about when you have treats, will sit in a busy cafe and just lay down and chill out. Presses a bell to go out to the toilet/once he knows where the back door is!
Things Gus is still working on: settling in the home - he’s still having enforced naps at the moment so hasn’t quite understood how to calm himself down yet without help. Zoomies can get very crazy and gets himself worked up and very thirsty. Gus can’t have any long lasting chews as he will become very protective of these and resource guards them (please look into this, as if not watched this can be dangerous), also a good idea to leave him alone when he’s eating his food as if he gets nervous that you are going to take it away he will resource guard it. He gets very attached to the people he’s around so when you leave the room he does tend to cry and bark if he can’t see you. His excitability is definitely a positive for some but around children and other dogs he gets so happy he needs a lot of help calming down. He’s not aggressive in any way he just will jump up a lot and if a dog doesn’t give him the attention back that he wants he will keep trying to get their attention.
What Gus needs: a nice big back garden, children at home will be fine but ones that have dealt with big dogs before as he has a very big head and he’s a hefty lump so little little ones may not cope. Other dogs would also be fine once he’s used to them but expect a lot of noise at first! Gus needs a lot of attention and a strict routine, 2 walks per day, morning and night. Someone that is home a lot of the day and has enough energy to give him what he deserves.
Gus is on a raw dog food diet and has supplements for his ‘worming and flea’ treatments, He is not allowed chicken as it affects his skin and no grains of any kind as they also affect his tummy. Gus has SO many toys, plenty of leftover treats, his crate, his blanket, his anxiety teddies, a car seat, 3 leads, training harness, licky mats, snuffle mats and he can keep my childhood teddy as he’s become quite attached. You can take everything we’ve bought for him to go with him as part of the price for him.
If you haven’t had a staffy/high energy dogs before, Gus is not for you. He is the best, kindest, most loving, playful squishy little bean but not to sugar coat it he is hard work and he deserves someone who is able to give him that.
We are happy for you to come and meet Gus/FaceTime to meet him, we will be very selective with his new owners and will expect regular updates throughout his life.
