🐾 About the Breed — Ancient European Guardian
The Polish Tatra Shepherd Dog (Owczarek Podhalański) is a rare, ancient livestock guardian from the mountains of southern Poland.
Closely related to the Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Maremma, Slovak Cuvac and Hungarian Kuvasz, this breed has been protecting flocks and families for hundreds of years.
Tatras are known for being:
✔ calm, stable and confident
✔ extremely loyal family protectors
✔ independent thinkers with high intelligence
✔ gentle with children and animals they know
✔ naturally wary of strangers
✔ happiest in homes with space, farms or smallholdings
They are majestic white guardian dogs with a strong presence and a very gentle nature towards their own families.
