Description
Gizmo is a medium male with an estimated birth date of 10/09/2014. He is neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated (the last vaccines were done in October 2025).
Gizmo went into a foster home in Romania and it was here that they noticed his laboured breathing when he was sleeping. He received veterinary care where it was discovered that he has B1 mitral valve disease (a heart condition). He also tested positive for Ehrlichia. Gizmo takes a supplement to support his heart function and this would need to continue in his new home.
Gizmo travelled to his foster career in the UK in November 2025. Gizmo settled well in his new foster home where there are several resident dogs. He does not show any signs of aggression within the home and does not resource guard.
Gizmo accepts a harness and slip lead well and walks very well on the lead. He can be selectively reactive to other dogs whilst on walks and his foster cannot find a pattern in this behaviour. In early January there was an incident when the foster was walking her other dogs and Gizmo. One of the foster’s other dogs approached an off-lead dog to play but the dog was scared and ran towards Gizmo. Gizmo snapped at the dog and caught her back leg and had her on the ground. The dogs were separated by the two owners. A new owner would need to be aware that Gizmo can sometimes be reactive whilst on walks but is generally very good on the lead. This would require some work. He is fine around cars, bikes and children whilst out on walks.
Gizmo hasn’t met children in the home but has been good with all adults in the home so it is thought that he could live with dog savvy children aged 12 or over with slow and sensible introductions.
Gizmo could be the only dog in the home but he loves playing with his foster’s dogs (she has 6 in the home) so could definitely live with other dogs with the appropriate introductions. He has reacted well when the resident dogs have corrected him.
Gizmo presently lives with cats. He tries to play with them but is not aggressive so he could live with dog savvy cats if introduced carefully and slowly.
Gizmo is housetrained. He is not crate trained. He has not shown any destructive behaviour in the home and has been left alone for 4 hours with no issues. He happily takes himself off to his pen or sleeps in the living room with the other dogs in the home.
Gizmo sleeps well over night. He presently has a penned off area in the home due to the number of other dogs and sleeps in there between 10pm and 7am.
Gizmo travels well in the car if carried into it. He can be a little fussy with food but the foster has found that he likes Rocco wet food and Wagg soft biscuits. He also likes freeze dried biscuits.
Overall the foster says that Gizmo loves cuddles (especially from her partner). He is a dog that thrives in company and with play. She says that “overall he is a little gem and I will be sad to see him go”.
