Some dogs jump forward asking for attention.
Some dogs fight to survive by making themselves visible.
And then there are dogs like Marie…
Dogs who disappear into the background because fear has completely taken over their little soul.
Marie was rescued from a public killing shelter.
A place where terrified dogs like her simply do not stand a chance.
Nobody could touch her.
Nobody could approach her.
Nobody saw “potential” in her.
To most people, Marie looked unreachable.
And in overcrowded public shelters, that almost always means the same thing…
The timid ones are the first to die.
Together with the old ones.
Marie was already sitting in the euthanasia kennels.
Waiting for her life to end before it had ever truly begun.
But one rescuer looked at her differently.
She did not see an aggressive dog.
She did not see a hopeless case.
She saw pure fear.
Fear caused by the terrifying noise, chaos, stress and horror of life inside a killing station. Fear created by a life we know nothing about… but a life that was most likely never kind to her.
And somehow, through all that fear, Marie still touched someone’s heart enough for them to say:
“This girl deserves a chance.”
So Marie was saved.
For the past six months, she has been staying in a private shelter, slowly decompressing, slowly learning that the world may not always be cruel.
And now…
very carefully…
we feel it may finally be time to look for her people.
Not just any people.
Marie does not need perfection.
Marie does not need expectations.
Marie does not need pressure.
Marie needs kindness.
She needs calm, patient people with enormous amounts of tender love and care. People who understand that trust is not demanded from dogs like Marie — it is earned quietly, gently, over time.
People who will allow her to acclimatize at her own pace.
Who will let her stabilize emotionally.
Who will give her the space to slowly integrate into a completely new life.
A life she has never known before.
We truly believe that if Marie is given safety, warmth and respect… if someone genuinely sees her and accepts her for exactly who she is… then one day this little girl will bloom.
Like a flower whose petals are still tightly closed.
Slowly.
Carefully.
In her own time.
And when that happens, we are convinced Marie will become the most loyal friend imaginable.

A calm and quiet household
No small children running and playing around her
Patient people without expectations
A secure, dog-proof garden is absolutely essential
People willing to work step by step, without pressure
A family that understands she may not be ready for walks on a leash for quite some time
Someone who wants to truly rescue a dog — not just “have” a dog
Marie is still learning.
Still observing.
Still trying to understand whether humans can finally be trusted.
But underneath all that fear is a beautiful little soul waiting for somebody to tell her:
“You are safe now.”
Marie is only around 3 years old.
She still has her whole life ahead of her.
And we hope with all our hearts that somewhere out there is that one special person who will finally give this precious girl the chance to truly begin living.
Because Marie survived.
Now she deserves to live.

Adrian and the team at Friends inDEED have been wonderful. We were able to go meet our dog with her sisters and we were in frequent communication during the adoption, and since with updates etc. We were also provided with some food, and lent a harness & lead to bring her home. She has already been incredibly well trained for a rescue dog as we have had no toilet accidents and she is already wonderful on her lead.
