Please read. This will be completely honest so we can find the right home for him with no surprises. He have tried contacting numerous rescues but unfortunately they don't have the room for him.
Meet Simba, he is a 10 month old Mastiff mix.
Simba needs an experienced home in large breeds and separation anxiety. Someone who can put the time and effort into training and setting firm boundaries. We have not had him long but have come to the heartbreaking realisation that we cannot provide what he needs and previous owner is unable to have him back.
He is microchipped and vaccinated. He is not neutered. He does have a weepy eye (from previous home) but have been unable to get him to the vets to be examined.
Pros-
People- loves every single person he meets
Playful- he loves playing with his toys and can do this for hours
Loving- he loves cuddling and falling asleep on you
Potential- he has the potential to be an amazing companion with the right person who has the time, effort and experience to train him.
Food- very gentle taking treats and will sit and paw for his meals.
Temperament- not an aggressive bone in his body. You can take food, toys and things he shouldn't have off him without issue. Good with dogs with appropriate introduction.
He really is a wonderful big boy who makes it impossible not to fall in love with.
Cons-
Severe separation anxiety- he is unable to be left alone including going from room to room without him (this could be worked on with the right training and time). He will whine, pace, jump/scratch at the door. Whines at night at bedtime and barks at every noise. This can last hours. But he has started improving on this.
No manners/boundries- he will jump on you, climb you, paw at your arms and mouths on your arms/hands (he needs firm boundries and a confident owner) right now it is very hard to get him to listen to you to stop or get down.
Walks- he is currently learning to walk on a halti, without this, he is a freight train. He fixates on people and animals and it's extremely hard to break his focus.
People- he loves every single person he meets but will jump on people and due to his size, accidentally hurts with his paws.
Crate- although he was previously crate trained, he has major freaks outs now, he will relentlessly try to escape (he has injured his paw trying to do this).
Chewing- he will chew shoes, pillows, rugs etc. He is a chancer and if he can get a hold of something, he will.
Type of home he needs-
Confident owner with experience in large breed dogs with separation anxiety.
Someone home most of the day (training to build up to leave him for short periods)
An active household who will take him for multiple walks a day, take him on adventures.
No children, he is too bouncy to be suitable for kids (no agression)
Possibly can live with another dog
No cats, he will chase
A large, secure garden where he can play and zoom
Someone to train him and work on his manners/boundries and continue halti training on walks.
He will need to be neutered. He will not be rehomes to someone who will use him for breeding.
Price is non negotiable.
You will be required to meet him and go for a walk with him before a decision is made. You will not take him the same day.
