Description

Willow is a medium sized Staffie X girl who is 4 years of age She came to the attention of Pawprints when her owner contacted us asking for assistance to rehome her dogs due to changes in her family circumstances. Willow is vaccinated, microchipped and spayed Her general health is good although she has had an issue with her cruciate ligament previously This can cause her to limp slightly after longer walks or excessive play with the other resident dog A medical disclosure is available regarding this Willow was visited at home by a Pawprints volunteer who conducted an in person assessment She described Willow as “friendly and inquisitive” upon meeting and keen to “give kisses and jump up” Typically Willow is welcoming towards guests in the home and approaches for a fuss She may give an attention bark or two but this is thought to be copying the behaviour of the other dog in the home and is not at all aggressive Willow currently lives with Kenny, a 3 year old Cane Corso, who she has a good relationship with She is regarded as the “boss” of the pair, in a very unthreatening way as she allows Kenny to steal her treats with no response! The pair have a very good relationship, often sleeping alongside each other and playing together but they are not bonded and can be rehomed separately It is felt that Willow would need a resident dog in her new home, she has never been an “only dog” and her owners feel she would miss having a doggy companion around. Willow has never met cats and while on a walk with our volunteer there was very little in the way of external stimuli to assess her prey drive Therefore we would recommend that she does not live in a home with cats and other small furries. Willow’s current family includes a 17 month old child who she is not comfortable around She does not display any negative or concerning behaviours but will avoid the child where possible Therefore we would not advise that she lives with young children She is an loving, playful dog who we feel would enjoy and benefit from being part of a family though We feel she could comfortably live in a home with children aged 14 years plus who would respect her boundaries and cope with her energy level. Willow accepts a collar, lead and harness She typically loves her walks and was previously walked on a daily basis with a weekly visit to a dog field so she could run off lead Her owner reports that she is keen to engage with other dogs while out and about and will pull towards them in excitement Unfortunately she isn’t getting any regular exercise at the moment Our volunteer took Willow for a walk during the assessment and reported Willow was very excitable and did pull quite a lot This is understandable given the fact she hadn’t been out for a number of weeks The assessor felt she would need some reminder work on lead training particularly as she is a strong dog. Willow is fed once a day late afternoon/early evening and she sleeps well overnight She has recently been spending time in the garden before settling down for the night. Willow is toilet trained but has been toileting indoors overnight recently This is thought to be behavioural due to the current situation She is not crate trained. Willow understands basic commands such as sit, off and here She displays no resource or food guarding behaviour but does suffer from separation anxiety Again this is thought to be due to the changes within the home and disruption to her typical routine She will require someone to be home much of the time in her new home, at least until she settles in and adjusts This is what our assessor had to say about Willow: “Willow is high energy and loves tug and wrestling games. She would be better suited to older children (teens) who could safely play these with her as she did get carried away. She did stop when told. She would be suited to someone with time to spend with her and energy to burn themselves.”
