It is with an incredibly heavy heart that we are looking for the perfect forever home for our beautiful African Grey, Luna. We have had her since she was just 4 months old, and she is far more than a pet to us—she is a cherished member of our family. Every member of our household has formed a very strong attachment to her, making this one of the most difficult decisions we have ever had to make. If circumstances were different, we would never rehome her. The only reason we are considering this is because we want her to continue enjoying the quality of life she deserves.
Luna is 1½ years old, fully healthy, a healthy weight, fully feathered, and still very young with her whole life ahead of her. She is extremely hand-tamed, exceptionally well-socialised, potty-trained, harness-trained, and one of the most gentle parrots you could ever meet. She very rarely bites; instead, if she doesn't want something or wants your hand moved, she will gently push it away with her beak.
Luna has a lively, extroverted, playful, and affectionate personality. She loves being around people and gets along well with men, women, and children. While she may take a little time to become fully comfortable with someone new, she is never timid or withdrawn around visitors like many parrots can be. She enjoys attention, interaction, and being involved in whatever is happening around the house.
Luna has an extraordinary vocabulary and communication ability. She speaks both English and Kurdish, can sing, dance to music, mimic sounds, and constantly amazes us with her intelligence. She loves communicating and interacting with people and has been raised as a true companion bird.
She loves flying around the house and will often fly over to sit with you when she wants company. Although her wings have been clipped in the past, they are currently growing back and she is flying well. She enjoys relaxing on the sofa with the family, cuddling, receiving head scratches, being gently laid on her back while playing, and spending quality time with the people she loves.
Luna enjoys a varied diet including pellets, fruits, and other healthy foods. She loves joining family mealtimes and sitting on her stand while eating alongside everyone. She is truly part of the family and enjoys participating in everyday life rather than simply being kept in a cage.
She is comfortable having her nails trimmed, enjoys learning new things, and loves outdoor adventures on her harness. She regularly goes on walks and enjoys exploring safely outside while spending time with her family.
Luna spends the vast majority of her day outside of her cage. She is not a bird that enjoys being confined and thrives on companionship, freedom, and interaction. One of the main reasons we have made this heartbreaking decision is that under our current circumstances, she would have to spend more time in her cage than she is used to, and we do not believe that would be fair to her. We would much rather find her a home where she can continue to enjoy the freedom and attention she has always had.
We are looking for someone experienced with parrots, ideally African Greys, who understands the commitment involved. A home where someone is available for much of the day would be ideal, as Luna is used to constant companionship and being part of family life. We are not looking for a quick sale—we are looking for the perfect forever home and the perfect person.
Having owned parrots before, I can honestly say that Luna is unlike any other parrot I have ever known. She is truly a special bird: loving, intelligent, gentle, affectionate, and an absolute joy to have around. We love her dearly and will only let her go to someone who will care for her, value her, and love her as much as we do.
Luna will come with her cage, toys, food, cage wipes, harness, and all accessories and supplies.
