Sebastian – 19-month-old Toy Poodle, currently being fostered in Gloucestershire in an adult home with other dogs.
This handsome little chap came into our care from a breeder, having had very little experience of the outside world.
He arrived as a completely terrified, shut-down little dog who simply didn't know how to cope with everyday life.
He was also in need of veterinary treatment. He had a badly infected mouth caused by retained baby teeth and painful ear infections.
Underneath it all was a beautiful little dog who had simply never been given the opportunity to experience life beyond the environment he had always known.
Sebastian is in a very experienced foster home with a wonderful group of confident dogs who have helped show him that the world isn't quite so scary.
The transformation has been incredible. If you have watched our videos from the day he arrived until now, you will see just how far this special little boy has come.
However, despite all of his progress, the emotional scars remain.
Sebastian has formed a very strong bond with his foster mum and trusts her completely.
She has carefully introduced him to new experiences, including visits to the local park and even a couple of agility shows, all managed at his pace.
He has coped incredibly well, but when he becomes frightened or overwhelmed, he can panic.
On those occasions he has bitten—not through aggression or malice, but purely out of fear.
He is still very wary of other members of the household and needs time, patience and understanding to build trust.
We know this means Sebastian will not be the right dog for the majority of applicants, and we want to be completely honest about that.

Sebastian is looking for a genuinely experienced home.
Not simply people who have owned dogs before, but adopters who have hands-on experience of rehabilitating extremely fearful, under-socialised dogs, particularly those from breeder or similar backgrounds.
He will also need one or more confident resident dogs to continue showing him the way.
We are deliberately not producing a long checklist of what Sebastian needs because those with the right experience will already understand the commitment involved.
They will know that progress comes in tiny steps, that trust cannot be rushed, and that patience, routine and gentle encouragement are the keys to helping dogs like Sebastian thrive.
If you have that experience, we would love to hear from you. If you are looking for an easy little companion or are new to rehabilitation work with fearful dogs, Sebastian is not the right match. We owe it to him to find the home that can continue the incredible work his foster family has started.
Sebastian has now had his dental treatment, retained baby teeth removed, ear infections treated, has been neutered and is fully vaccinated.
He is now ready to start looking for that very special forever home.
If you believe you can offer Sebastian exactly what he needs, please email us at ************ and we will send you our adoption questionnaire.
