Hattie – Patterdale Terrier x Spaniel (we think!) – young female (under 12 months) 📍 Fostered in Gloucestershire in an adult home with other dogs Hattie is an absolutely beautiful young girl who came into our care just over a week ago after being found straying on a main road alongside little Finn. Sadly, neither dog was claimed during their time in the pound, and with no microchip, we can only estimate her age — but judging by her gleaming white teeth and overall condition, we believe she is no older than 12 months. She has the softest coat, with lovely white flecks running through it that you might miss at first glance, but they make her even more special. From day one, Hattie has shown what a loving and people-focused little dog she is. She was so happy to leave kennels behind, and her tail hasn’t stopped wagging since! She adores human company — if there’s a lap available, Hattie will find it. She’s a real cuddle bug and thrives on affection. The only sad clue to her past is the fur loss around her neck, which suggests she may have been tethered outside. Despite this, she hasn’t let it affect her gentle and affectionate nature. In her foster home, Hattie has settled in brilliantly. She was initially cautious around the resident dogs, but within a week they are now happily playing, eating, and relaxing together. She clearly understands dog communication well — her foster carers describe her as a dog who “reads the room.” If another dog corrects her, she listens and responds appropriately. Out on walks, she is polite and slightly cautious with other dogs, but her main focus is always people. She’s a real social butterfly and would happily make friends with everyone she meets. Hattie travels well in the car and settles nicely. She is nearly there with house training, with just a few occasional accidents as she continues to learn. She sleeps soundly in a crate in the bedroom overnight and has been left for short periods without any issues. All in all, Hattie is a happy, affectionate young dog with huge potential. She is still finding her feet at times, which is completely understandable, but she is eager to learn and very people-oriented. She would be a fantastic candidate for training activities such as agility or other dog sports. Due to her likely breed mix, Hattie will need an active home that can provide both physical exercise and mental stimulation. She is not a “quick walk around the park” type of dog — she will thrive with someone who wants to truly engage with their dog and make her part of their lifestyle. As we have no history for Hattie, we are looking for an adult-only home. This is not due to any negative behaviour, but simply to ensure we set her up for success in an environment she can comfortably adapt to. Hattie has been fully health-checked with no concerns, is now spayed (currently recovering), has started her vaccinations, and is up to date with flea and worm treatments. If you feel you could offer this lovely girl the home she deserves, we would love to hear from you.
