Description
Roxie is a 6 year old Smaller medium sized female dog, weighing approximately 13.4kg. She is spayed and up to date with her vaccinations. Roxie is currently on Vitamin B tablets to manage a diagnosed Vitamin B deficiency. This condition is stable and managed with daily supplementation. There are no other known medical issues.
Roxie's mother was dumped at the public shelter in Bucharest Romania in November 2019 while pregnant, luckily she was saved and gave birth to Roxie and her sister Tilly within our care. While in Romania Roxie did have surgery for a broken humerus however this healed well and would cause no issues later on.
Roxie as adopted in May 2020. When arriving in the UK Roxie was diagnosed with Giardia however this cleared up quickly.
Roxie has been with her owner for almost 6 years now but unfortunately due to a recent relationship breakdown they have had to make the decision to surrender her.
Roxie is a friendly, gentle dog who is good with people. She can be nervous when people first visit the home but has never shown any aggression. She has never bitten, snapped, or growled, and has no history of food or resource guarding.
Roxie does not currently live with children, but she has previously lived with children aged 10 and 12 and behaved well. She has also been fine around a friend’s 5 year old child. She is suitable to live with sensible children, particularly in a calmer household.
Roxie does not currently live with other dogs but has lived successfully with a greyhound from the age of 6 until the other dog passed away at 13. She is fine with other dogs she meets on walks. She does not need to live with another dog but could do so happily and may enjoy the company.
Roxie does not currently live with cats. She has seen cats while out on walks and has not shown any obvious prey drive. She is also fine with rabbits in cages. She can therefore live with cats following sensible introductions.
Roxie accepts a collar, harness, and lead. She walks well on the lead, though she can pull slightly. Her recall is very good once she has built trust with the person handling her. On walks she is generally calm, though she can be nosy and a little nervous around new stimuli. She has not shown any escape behaviours either in the home or while out walking.
Roxie is toilet trained. However, due to stress and recent upheaval, she has toileted indoors overnight on one occasion. This appears to be stress-related rather than a lack of training. She sleeps well overnight but may need access to a garden or a settling-in period while she adjusts. She is not crate trained.
Roxie has not been destructive as an adult. Any destructive behaviour occurred when she was only a few months old and has not been an issue since.
Roxie can be left alone and has previously been left for up to six hours without issue. She travels well in the car, though she does pant during journeys.
Roxie prefers calm company and enjoys being around her people. She is not overly demanding in terms of exercise and is not fussed about long walks. She would benefit from a home where someone is around for much of the day, has access to a garden, and can offer a quiet, stable environment. While she has lived with children and dogs, a calmer home would suit her best, especially initially.
Roxie is described as very loving and loyal once she trusts you. She enjoys toys, calm environments, and having access to the garden. She thrives on reassurance and routine.
Roxie needs a pet free home as she attacked the dog in the previous home, she is currently struggling with incontinence but this is due to a treatable illness that she is on medication for. She is fine with the staff and volunteers and can be handed over without needing introduction. She is very stressed in the kennel and has started destroying her bedding, she spends a lot of time in the kennel, panting and barking, this may be due to separation anxiety or the kennel environment making her stressed.
