Description
Female, pink white chinchilla 9 weeks old (as of 6.5.26) and available now.
She looked to be beige mosaic at birth but now seems she will take more after her dad and be pink white. Her coat is lovely, mostly white with a lovely silver/beige tinge and some deeper tones on her face and a patch at the base of her tail. She is confident and outgoing; happily taking food from my hand and easy to catch. None of my chinchillas, like most of the species, particularly like to be handled, however they will hop all over me when out and like a nose stroke when it’s exchanged for treats.
Mum; Mum is a mosaic royal Persian angora chinchilla with an extra long coat especially long whiskers and tail. She has been a natural first time mum and everything from birth to feeding and allowing baby to be handled has gone very smoothly.
Dad; Dad is a pink white boy who is an absolute delight and the funniest character.
Baby; Now old enough to leave, baby is beautiful and confident. She has similar, lovely markings and coat to her dad but seems to have inherited extra long whiskers from mum. A very pretty girl! She is eating well and is confident. She will be a fantastic pet for the right, knowledgeable owner.
Chinchillas can be great pets but do have specialist requirements. They need a diet of hay and pellets with only a few treats. She loves a daily shredded wheat and will take this happily from my hand, hopping over to receive it. It is important to do research about diet and chinchilla care before owning one due to their needs. She is a lone baby and would benefit from joining an existing chinchilla or if you are looking to add a friend soon. Bonding is important for the species but they are social and she is used to living with mum and auntie. She will also require regular sand baths, a suitable cage (avoiding plastic) and to be kept cool (I have an air conditioning unit for the summer months and this is recommended for this species unless they will not exceed 21 degrees Celsius). Despite being cute enough to be mistaken for real life squish mellows, they are not always recommended for children as they are delicate, fast moving and not cuddly. However, if you are looking for an unusual pet that has bags of character; are patient and enjoy researching the species; need a pet that can fit in with a busy schedule (they don’t need walks and mine do not mind that I don’t have them on a routine), she could well be the perfect pet for you.
I am more than happy to answer any questions you have as I realise how important it is to find the right fit when adding a new pet to your family.
