Description
Arun is a brown scruffy dog who is birthdate of 28.08.2014. He is chipped and neutered but he is not up to date with vaccinations.
Arun originally came over to the UK in 2021 where he had multiple adoption/foster homes. He was surrendered from a number of homes for showing aggression, either due to guarding of food or guarding of space. It seems that food was often a precipitating factor. There were a number of bite incidents.
Arun has been in our Cheshire kennels since June 2021. When he arrived in kennels he was very stressed but soon settled in a quieter kennel area. Arun can guard his kennel from new staff members, however, staff that he's used to have no trouble with this at all and he is happy to let them go in and sit with him. He is not comfortable letting strangers into his area but once he knows you he is fine. He regularly goes out with volunteers and on group walks with other dogs, he has no issues with volunteers as long as they don't overly fuss him and are mindful of his back end as he has pain in his hips. He is happy to have a fuss and a cuddle off the staff, we are just mindful not to over do it as he has his boundaries which we respect.
Arun walks well on the lead and is happy to accept a slip lead and collar. Arun does not like high traffic areas and would benefit from a home in a quieter area. He is traffic reactive, but it is selective and doesn't always do it.
Arun has shown some destructive behaviour in that he has destroyed beds and blankets in his bedding area. He is however fine with being left alone for 6 hours as he just sleeps.
He has travelled in a car which he finds stressful at first but he does settle.
there have been incidents of Arun snapping and attempting to bite when people have touched his back end. Arun has been diagnosed with Osteoporosis and has muscle wastage around his hips and the tops of his legs which causes him to be in pain. He is currently on Gabapentin and Rheumocam to help manage his pain. His diagnosis is not something that can be cured and he will suffer with this for the rest of his life and will need to remain on pain meds to help manage this. He has been a lot happier and has had less incidents since being on these pain meds. Arun does not like to be groomed. He has been to a professional groomer but he did not like this and bit the worker.
Arun is clean in his kennel and never toilets in it, he will hold everything in until he is outside.
Due to Arun’s guarding tendencies and dislike for being touched he needs a pet and child free home. His new carer needs to understand his need for space and be able to take things at his pace. Arun needs a quiet home with someone who understands that he does not like a fuss but will come to you on his own terms when he is comfortable. The kennel staff describe him as loving people when he trusts them and liking to cuddle up on a sofa. He loves soft toys and chicken. Arun needs a quiet retirement home with an understanding adopter.
