Description
JACK FOR ADOPTION OR FOSTER IN CORNWALL OR DEVON
Rescue Story:
Well hello there, I’m Jack! Tall, lean, a bit leggy and definitely full of heart. I’m the kind of boy who makes people smile and I’ve been told I’m equal parts sensitive soul and playful goofball. Life hasn’t always been easy for me, but thanks to some very kind humans, I’ve come a long way and I’m finally ready for my next big adventure: a home of my very own.
I was born in Dubai and came to the UK when I was just one year old, full of hope and puppy energy, but no rescue backing me. My first home didn’t go too well… I was crated far too much, misunderstood and honestly just a bit lost. I didn’t know how to say “I’m scared and frustrated” except by nipping now and then… nothing serious, but it was my way of saying “please help me.” Sadly, that was seen as being “naughty”, but I promise I was just confused.
Then I landed in a much nicer home with a lovely Husky friend (we were a great pair!), but they also had a big, bouncy pup who was a little too in-your-face for me. I tried my best, but it just wasn’t the right match.
Thankfully, they loved me enough to ask for help and that’s when Paws2Freedom stepped in. They found me a wonderful kennel where I’ve been learning, decompressing and thriving. I’m enjoying life while I wait for someone amazing (like you?) to scoop me up. Could this be you?
Breed: Saluki x German Shepherd
Size: Medium to large, slim and athletic - think “gazelle with eagerness to learn”
Sex: Male
Age: 3 years (DOB: 15.12.2022)
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Microchipped: Absolutely
Child friendly:
I’d be best suited to a child-free home, as I need a calm and predictable environment. That said, older, dog-savvy teenagers who understand how to give a sensitive lad like me space and time could be a good fit too.
Dog friendly:
I think I’d really love to be the only dog in my new home as it helps me feel safe and relaxed. But… if you’ve got a calm, well-mannered female dog who’s very respectful and social, we might just hit it off. I’ve lived with other dogs before and I enjoy a good play now and then, as long as things don’t get too chaotic. We’d need a slow introduction to see if the vibe is right.
Cat friendly: Not tested
Livestock/Other animals: Not tested
Temperament / Behaviour / Training needs:
I’m a mix of that classic German Shepherd loyalty and cleverness with the graceful, slightly dramatic flair of a Saluki.
I bond strongly with my people and love learning, especially when treats and praise are involved (I’m not daft, hehe).
I’m a sensitive boy at heart. I like to know I’m safe and that I can trust the people around me. Once I do, I’ll follow you anywhere… tail wagging, eyes bright, goofy grin on full display. I can be a bit shy with new people, but I come around quickly with gentle introductions and kindness.
I’ve come a really long way. The amazing people here listen and help me when I say “I’m not sure about this.” Which makes all the difference and I feel that they can be trusted to keep me safe and not rush me.
I can still be a little cautious in new situations, especially if a person or another dog comes up to me too quickly. I might give a bark just to let my human know I’m not quite sure about things yet. What really helps me is having a calm, confident person I can trust. When my human steps in to protect/reassure me and handle the situation, I relax straight away and let them take over. I’m getting better and better at this all the time, and these moments are already happening much less often as my confidence grows.
Oh and guess what? I had a big day out! I went on a long car journey to Paws2Freedom’s vet for a full health check. I was super well-behaved (even got called a “star passenger”) and I was so chilled at the vet’s and only a bit nervous when they took my bloods that day.
Afterwards we shared pizza which was a real treat for me. It was a great day and the P2F crew said they absolutely loved spending time with me. I loved it too.
Training & Support:
I’ve got good lead manners, I enjoy training and I really try my best. I’d do great with ongoing positive reinforcement and some gentle, but consistent guidance in my new home.
If you’ve got rescue dog experience that would be fab, but don’t worry if you’re not an expert, but realistic and willing to learn! My trainer is offering free support to help you settle me in and continue the great work we’ve already started.
House trained: Yep! (in previous homes)
Health:
Fit, healthy, vaccinated, neutered, microchipped… and my Brucella test is clear too. Bonus!
Ideal Home:
So what am I dreaming of? A cosy home with kind humans who’ll love me for who I am - lanky legs, big heart, goofy moments and all! Someone who doesn’t expect a perfect dog, but embraces my insecurities and helps me gain more confidence in new situations.
I’d really love to be your one-and-only, your best mate, shadow, snuggle buddy and adventure pal. But… if you’ve got a calm, polite lady dog who knows how to give a gent like me some space, we could possibly be a good match (with slow intros of course).
A secure garden would be my dream for zoomies and lounging, and peaceful walks in the countryside are totally my vibe. I have never been to the beach, but really curious about that.
I’d like someone who understands that it might take me a little time to settle, but once I do, I’ll give you my whole heart.
No little kids, but kind, dog-savvy older teens could be great. I’ve done really well here at the kennels and now I just need someone to help me finish the next chapter: home life.
Current Location: Devon, UK (kennels)
