Description
Pickle is a 3 year old large male and is currently residing in Barry Vale of Glam
He is neutered and up to date with his vaccinations and has no known medical issues.
This beautiful boy was rescued from the streets of Romania with his 3 siblings, he was placed into foster by Pawprints To Freedom with a Romanian vet, who cared for Pickle and his siblings until October 2021 when he travelled to the UK to his first adoption home.
Pickle settled well into his first home initially, however, he developed a fear of visitors and the younger children within the home. Due to showing guarding and territorial behaviour to visitors in this home, he managed to nip two visitors (On one occasion he left no mark and on another occasion he did not cause bleeding, however, it did break the skin).
This lead to his first caregiver surrendering him back to Pawprints To Freedom, which is when he moved to Our Safe Haven kennels in October 2022.
In 07/2023, Pickle moved into his second adoption home and although Pickle has progressed throughout his time at OSH and his second adoption home, he still unfortunately has a fear of visitors which has led to him nipping again. This has caused a mark and blood blister to the skin, due to this nipping incident and Pickles was surrendered again.
He is currently with his foster and has been since November 2023.
Pickles hasn’t experienced loads of new people in the home, when there is people such as work men, Pickle has a woof at the door, and then is redirected to his safe space and he goes in there brilliantly.
Although Pickle is nervous and can be reactive towards strangers, he adores people once he gets to know them. He has not bitten nor growled at anyone but he does enjoy a quieter home.
He is described as a very happy boy around people he trusts and is excited when they return to see him, once he knows someone he does not bark.
On walks Pickle wears a collar, harness and lead, he is also muzzle trained for his safety as well as people out and about
This beautiful boy walks well on the lead, he is currently learning to heel and is making good progress with this. He can be strong for the first 10-20 mins and then he calms down and is a pleasure to walk.
Pickle is good with other dogs and could share his home with them pending a successful meet and slow and sensible introductions. He can become over stimulated at times and does need to learn manners and socialisation.
Pickle has previously lived with younger children and struggled with this, therefore, he is looking for an adult only home or with older dog savvy children that will respect his boundaries, circa 16 years plus
Pickle does show prey drive and therefore cannot share a home with cats or small furries.
Pickle is toilet trained and crate trained, he can currently be left alone for up to 4 hours with no issues and sleeps well overnight.
Pickles foster has said:
Pickle is a wonderful dog - highly intelligent and full of energy. However he doesn’t require massive walks or runs, he just as much enjoys to chill with you at home.
I think he’d enjoy some sort of agility/scent training for mental stimulation. His favourite things are squeaky balls and sand pits
He loves a good pamper and will stand for ages for a groom and lets me clip his nails
He loves a good cuddle and will head bop you to get one
Whilst he does have his quirks there are easy ways around them and as long as time and patience is given to him he will make a fantastic companion
