Meet Taffy – 3-year-old Corgi x Dachshund boy 🐾
Taffy is a gorgeous little character currently being fostered in an adult family home in Devon, where he is living happily alongside other dogs.
He came into our care due to the ill health of his previous owner.
Taffy had been with them since he was a puppy and shared his home with another dog, who has since been returned to the breeder. This has been a big change for him, but he has handled it with quiet resilience.
Over the past week, we’ve been getting to know Taffy, and his foster carers describe him as one of the easiest dogs they’ve ever welcomed into their home.
He has taken everything in his stride, gradually settling into his new surroundings, routine, and canine companions.
He is now relaxed, content, and starting to show his lovely personality.
Taffy is an absolute gentleman.
He doesn’t barge through doors, takes treats ever so gently, and is simply a pleasure to have around.
He enjoys his walks both on and off lead, travels well in the car, has been to the pub, and can be left for short periods without any issues.
At night, he sleeps downstairs peacefully with the other dogs.
He enjoys the company of other dogs and has even started to initiate play, which is wonderful to see.
However, there is an important part of Taffy’s story that we must get right…
Taffy is currently significantly overweight. He should weigh around 15kg but is currently just over 20kg.
He has already lost half a kilo in his first week (despite initially preferring treats over meals), and he is now eating properly and enjoying daily exercise.
While Taffy does love his walks, he also loves lounging and taking life easy — and while that makes him a wonderfully calm companion, much of this is due to his excess weight.
Without continued weight loss and a healthier lifestyle, he is at serious risk of long-term health problems, reduced mobility, and a shortened life.
This is why his next home is so important.
We are looking for:
A home with another friendly, playful dog
Owners who enjoy walking and will keep him active
A commitment to a carefully managed diet and healthy routine
If we don’t get this right, we risk his future health and happiness — and that is something we simply cannot compromise on.
Taffy is a truly lovely, straightforward little dog, and whoever welcomes him into their life will be incredibly lucky. In return, we need to know that his new family will continue the vital work already started to help him become fit, healthy, and able to enjoy a long, happy life.
Taffy is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and up to date with worming and flea treatment.
If you feel you can offer Taffy the right home and the commitment he needs, please email us.
