IF PEOPLE COULD READ ALL OF THIS AND THEN APPLY VIA OUR WEBSITE BY THE CONTACT FORM WE CAN SEND YOU AN APPLICATION FORM BUT PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR OURS UNTIL YOU HAVE READ IT ALL THANK YOU. Cookie – 6-year-old gentleman (around 20kg) - Mixed Breed.  Currently being fostered in Gloucestershire in a busy adult home with five other dogs. Please read Cookie's full profile before applying. Cookie is an incredibly handsome boy and we know he is likely to receive a great deal of interest. However, we are looking far beyond appearances when choosing his forever family. Cookie has had an unsettled life and deserves people who understand that rescue dogs sometimes need a little time, patience and reassurance while they learn that they are finally safe. We feel he would be happiest with adopters who have previous experience of rescue dogs or experience of helping an anxious dog build confidence. They will recognise that the little moments of uncertainty we have seen are simply part of his journey, not faults to be fixed. We were originally told Cookie was a Cockapoo... although we're not entirely convinced! His looks have sparked plenty of debate, with guesses including Poodle crossed with German Wirehaired Pointer, Schnauzer and Labrador. The truth is, nobody really knows – so he can be whatever you would like him to be! Whatever his mix may be, one thing is certain – he is an absolutely lovely boy. Cookie came into our care due to very complex family circumstances. Before that, he had already experienced neglect, and sadly his life has been far from straightforward. Through no fault of his own he has been passed from one situation to another, leaving him understandably anxious when faced with change he has also been subject to being hurt .  Despite everything he has experienced, Cookie has never shown any aggression towards people. When he has felt frightened, his instinct has simply been to move away. In his previous home he often ended up being shut away to protect him from the children to feel safe, which has only added to his worries.  What has amazed us most is just how forgiving he is. He met one of our foster home's three-year-old little boy. Cookie's response? He happily covered him in kisses. That is Cookie all over. His biggest wish is simply to be loved. We know he previously lived with another dog, although we suspect that relationship wasn't always been the easiest for him. When Cookie first arrived, he was quite wary of the resident dogs and would occasionally give a little growl when he felt unsure. It was never aggressive; it was simply his way of saying, "I'm worried." Fast forward just a week, and that uncertainty has almost completely disappeared. He has formed lovely relationships with the other dogs and is even enjoying playing with the younger, larger dog who initially worried him the most. Once Cookie realises another dog is kind, he settles beautifully. One of Cookie's greatest joys is getting out into the countryside. He absolutely adores his walks and you don't even need to call him back he checks in and his recall is excellent. We know this was something he sadly missed out on before coming into rescue, so watching him run, explore and simply enjoy being a dog has been incredibly rewarding. He walks beautifully on the lead, travels well in the car and is polite when meeting other dogs. Occasionally he can still be a little unsure, but his confidence continues to grow every day. At home, Cookie is a wonderfully easy companion. He is clean indoors, sleeps peacefully through the night and happily settles in his crate with the other dogs in our kitchen. We introduced the crate when he first arrived because he found everything so overwhelming, but it quickly became his safe place. He has also been left for short periods without any problems. He has recently enjoyed a much-needed haircut and nail trim, taking both completely in his stride. As the days have gone by, we have watched the anxious little soul who arrived begin to relax. The more secure Cookie feels, the more his true personality shines through. He is affectionate, gentle, incredibly loyal and simply wants someone he can trust. If Cookie could tell us what he is looking for, we think he would say this: "I'd love a peaceful home in the countryside with people who enjoy walking as much as I do. I don't want to be left for long hours because I really enjoy being with my people. I'd be happy living with another kind dog, although I may need a little time to realise they're going to be my friend. I don't mind meeting visiting grandchildren – I actually like children very much – but because of my past I'd rather not live in a busy family home. I'd much prefer an adult-only home where life is calm, predictable and full of kindness. I've had enough uncertainty now. I just want somewhere to finally belong." Cookie has so much love waiting to give the right family. We know saying goodbye to him will be difficult, but we also know there is a wonderful home out there where he can finally put his past behind him and simply enjoy the life every dog deserves. He is a bit of a Velcro dog and wants to be where you are.  Cookie has been fully health checked by our vet, restarted his vaccinations and has been flea and worm treated. If you feel you could offer Cookie the forever home he has been waiting for, please email us at ************  to request our adoption questionnaire. When applying, please tell us why you feel your home would suit Cookie's needs, rather than simply why you love his appearance. On our website is videos of him in various situations and our Facebook page. Starfish Dog Rescue Stroud, Gloucestershire.
