Meet Barry B Benson Name: Barry B Benson (Barry) Breed: Shepherd Age: Unknown, vet estimates 5–6 years Weight: 27kg Barry is a lovely, gentle boy who has been through rather a lot, and he is now looking for a quiet, understanding home where he can settle in and enjoy life. When Barry first came into our care, he had sadly been left living on the streets. He arrived with a severe skin infection and was also underweight. He has received veterinary treatment, including steroids, antibiotics and topical treatment, and we are delighted to say that his skin has almost completely cleared. He has a little fur still to grow back around his ears, and he is steadily gaining weight and looking much healthier. ❤️ Barry’s personality In his kennel, Barry is a wonderfully quiet and chilled out boy. He enjoys sitting back and watching what is going on around him, particularly keeping an eye on the staff and the other dogs. Once he is out on his walks, however, his playful side really comes to life! Barry loves toys, especially squeaky toys and tennis balls, and he is always happy to have some fun. He is also a very clever boy, and it is clear that someone has spent time training him in the past. He is an intelligent dog who will thrive with an owner who is willing to continue building on his training and give him plenty of positive encouragement. Barry can be a little particular when it comes to treats, he knows what he likes and is definitely a fan of the finer things in life! High value treats are the way to Barry’s heart. 🐕 Barry and other dogs Barry can be quite unpredictable around other dogs. He is happy to walk calmly alongside them when given plenty of space, but he does not appreciate other dogs approaching him and will make his feelings known. For this reason, Barry would need to be the only dog in the home. His new owners will need to be comfortable managing his interactions with other dogs and giving him the space he needs. 🏡 Barry’s ideal home Barry is looking for an adult only home where he can have a calm and settled environment. We do not know how Barry feels about cats or other animals, so we would not recommend placing him in a home with other pets. His ideal family will be patient, understanding and willing to give him time to settle and build a trusting relationship. In return, Barry has so much potential to become a wonderful companion.
