Description
Pearl is a 4 year old female large sized, long haired female dog that is likely a Mioritic Shepherd mix. Pearl was saved from the Codlea kill shelter and spent a short time in a Romanian rescuers shelter before making her way to our Cheshire kennels in February 26. She is microchipped, vaccinated and neutered with no known health issues.
Pearl has not lived in a home and will need help adjusting to the home environment, she is not toilet trained.
Behaviour & Temperament Summary
General temperament:
The dog is friendly and calm when people approach the kennel. She will come over to greet visitors but does so gently and without jumping up, suggesting good general manners with people.
Human interaction:
No history of biting or growling at people.
Appears comfortable and sociable with humans.
Has not been formally child-tested in kennels.
Due to her size, she is considered best suited to a home with children aged 12 years or older.
Handling & equipment:
Accepts a collar, harness, and lead without issue.
Walks nicely on lead, although she reacts to other dogs while out.
Behaviour around other dogs:
Has previously lived with other dogs and currently shares with kennel mates.
Generally coexists well, but does show resource guarding over her bed.
Has growled at another dog when guarding the bed.
Shows reactivity to other dogs through barriers and when on lead.
Could potentially live with another dog, but introductions and management around resources would be required.
Resource guarding:
Guards her bed from other dogs.
No guarding behaviour reported towards people.
Prey drive:
Has shown some prey drive, so care may be needed around small animals.
Cats:
No known history with cats, so compatibility is unknown.
Kennel behaviour:
Toilets in the kennel.
Not destructive.
No signs of separation anxiety.
Being left alone:
Has previously been left overnight without issues and coped well.
Pearls carer says 'Pearl is very friendly with people, she’s fine with the dogs in her kennel but doesn’t seem to like any other dogs. She may be okay with them after a few meets but initially she is reactive. Think she would prefer a human only home. She’s fine with people so can’t see an issue being with kids but she is big and a bit bouncy so would knock a small child over possibly. She walks nicely on the lead but can pull at times and does react to other dogs. May be an environmental thing. She guards the bed from the other dogs in the kennel and is very foody'.
