Beautiful Indy is a 2-year-old mixed breed girl who originally came over from Romania. Her owner has had her for **nearly two years**, and this has been an incredibly heartbreaking decision. Indy's owner describes her as the **most loving, friendly and affectionate girl**. She absolutely loves people and has so many wonderful qualities. Unfortunately, over time Indy developed **resource-guarding behaviours within the home**, particularly around her food, toys and things she considered hers. Her owner has been very honest about the situation and has said that she feels she was **too soft with Indy and simply wasn't experienced enough to deal with the behaviours when they first appeared**. She takes responsibility for that and feels that, in hindsight, she should have handled things differently. She has said she feels it is her fault, which makes the decision to let Indy go even harder. However, rather than allowing the situation to continue, she has made the incredibly difficult decision to put **Indy's needs and her daughter's safety first** and find Indy a home with someone who has the experience and confidence to manage her properly. She is absolutely devastated to be saying goodbye to Indy and wants nothing more than for her to have the right future. *Indy is now with Damon, who is a dog trainer, and she has been good as gold.** She has settled extremely well with him and is responding brilliantly to the structure, boundaries and routine he provides. Indy can be **nervous around other dogs** and may react when she feels unsure. At this stage, this appears to be a reaction from **nervousness rather than aggression**. Damon will be spending the next few days carefully working with her around our pack to help build her confidence and get a better understanding of how she interacts with other dogs. Indy also has a **strong natural prey drive** and enjoys catching rats and other small animals, so she would not be suitable for a home with small pets. 🏡 **Indy needs a very particular home:** • Someone experienced with resource guarding and dog behaviour • A confident owner who can provide structure, boundaries and consistency • Someone patient who will allow her time to settle and build confidence • Someone prepared to continue the training and management Damon has started • A home without small animals due to her prey drive • Someone who understands that although Indy is currently doing brilliantly, her previous resource guarding must be taken seriously and managed correctly **Indy is not a bad dog.** She is a loving girl who has developed behaviours that her previous owner didn't have the experience to manage, and her owner has been brave enough to recognise that Indy needs something different.
