Description
Otis is a gentle Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, born March 2019. We’ve had him since a puppy. He is a sensitive, loyal boy who forms strong bonds and thrives on comfort, reassurance, and plenty of cuddles.
He would be best suited to a calm, quiet household with no children, as he is struggling with recent changes in our home environment. This rehoming is through no fault of his own — Otis simply needs a peaceful, predictable setting where he can feel safe and settled.
Otis enjoys going for walks and loves seeing other dogs when out, although he may occasionally growl. He has never bitten, but has shown signs of being unhappy through growling, particularly in noisy or overwhelming situations. He is fine within the home and may live happily with another calm dog, provided they get on well. He currently has no reliable recall, so he would need to remain on-lead or in secure areas when out. Otis does not like water.
At home, Otis is house trained and crate trained, and settles well in a calm, familiar environment.
Routine & time alone
Otis is able to stay at home while his owners are working. We would not recommend leaving him for more than 8–9 hours, although he has occasionally managed longer. When left, he has full access to the house and settles well in his familiar environment.
Health & care
Otis does have ongoing health needs. He requires dental treatment, which we are unfortunately unable to afford. A heart murmur was identified a few years ago; however, there are no current concerns relating to this at present. There may be possible orthopaedic issues, although these have not been formally diagnosed.
Otis is not neutered.
He is groomed every 8 weeks, including having his anal glands done. Due to how nervous he can be, we would strongly recommend continuing with our current groomer, who knows Otis well and manages him calmly and confidently.
What we are looking for
We are seeking an adopter with previous dog ownership experience, ideally someone familiar with Cavalier King Charles Spaniels or similar breeds, who understands their needs and sensitivities.
There is no rehoming fee — our priority is finding the right home, not a quick solution. The adopter must be financially and emotionally able to fully meet Otis’s health needs, now and in the future.
Important
• Home must be within 20 miles of Exeter
• We will not hand Otis over immediately
• A slow, supported transition will be essential to ensure it is the right fit for Otis and his new family
Please only contact us if you are genuinely serious about offering Otis a long-term, committed home and are able to meet his needs.
Otis has so much love to give and deserves a home where he can feel safe, calm, and truly cherished. If you feel you could offer this, please get in touch with some information about yourself and your home.
I have tried to rehome him through a charity but they won’t accept him.
