Meet Maple, a beautiful Black and Tan Cocker Spaniel who has just turned one, and is looking for her forever home!
Maple was originally bought as a show dog by a family member who unfortunately was unable to manage a puppy with two very young children.
I took Maple on at 5 months old, when she hadn’t been socialised with other dogs and was scared of people. We’ve worked really hard and she is making slow but steady progress, but this work will need to continue in the long term.
Maple is adorable, and has a really lovely nature when she feels safe and loved. She’s super affectionate and daft….she loves cuddles and kisses, playing with other dogs her age and loving on her favourite toys.
Unfortunately already having two dogs before she came to me, and having just found out that my eldest has health issues which will be long term; sadly I just don’t have the time or finances to give Maple what she needs in the long term.
Given her young age and the amount of energy that she has, she would be better either on her own or with dogs of a similar playful age. She needs a human who has the time and patience to train her, help her overcome her earliest start in life and give her lots of affection and love. She is currently frightened of small children and would be better placed with a home where there are no children or older children.
Maple was significantly overfed before she came to me, we’ve been working on reducing her weight and she has Royal Canin weight management food as recommended by the vet. She is very laidback and can be lazy as she was rarely walked previously. She is now used to being walked for at least an hour twice a day and will need a good sized garden to play in as she does here. She will get bored if she doesn’t have toys or puzzle games to play with, which will result in her pushing the boundaries - as dogs her age will!
Maple is not used to being left without her human for more than an hour or two, and she does have separation anxiety; so an owner who is away from home for long hours won’t work for her.
My main priority is finding her forever home, where she will be loved and cared for til the end of her life. This would be her third home and I really would never want her to have to go through the stress and anxiety of yet another rehoming process; so I am looking for the right fit for her, and someone who will help her live her best life.
She has been regularly flea’d and wormed, and her one year vaccinations are coming up.
I have all her Kennel Club, health testing and vaccination paperwork which will be passed to the new owner, along with some of her favourite toys.
She does have naturally very long fur, which I cut back when she first got to me. It makes her extremely hot and uncomfortable when it is long. Her fur grows back really quickly!
