The Silver Appleyard is one of the loveliest duck breeds you can keep. Known for its calm, easy-going temperament, it's an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced poultry keepers. They're gentle and social, and easy to handle, especially when raised from ducklings. They also get along well with other ducks and poultry, making them great for mixed flocks on family farms and homesteads.
They're a brilliant dual-purpose breed too — one of the best layers among the heavyweight ducks at 220–265 white eggs a year — and as a lovely bonus, the breed is classed as "threatened" by the Livestock Conservancy, so keeping a few helps support a rare heritage breed.
