The Hovawart, also known as Hovie, is native to Germany, where he has always been a valued guard and companion dog. He belongs to an ancient working dog breed that was once common throughout Europe and the Mediterranean. These attractive dogs look similar to retrievers and boast a very friendly nature that is even-tempered, reliable and adaptable. Often referred to as Hovies, these charming dogs are not so well known in many other countries around the world, but slowly more and more people are learning about this ancient breed, although they are still rarely seen here in the UK.
