One of the lesser known domestic terrier breeds, the Sporting Lucas Terrier is a relative newcomer to the dog scene. They were first developed in the 1940s by crossing Sealyham Terriers with Norfolk Terriers, although Plummer Terriers was later introduced into the mix to create the dogs we see today.

The Sporting Lucas Terrier is a more active and energetic working version of the Lucas Terrier, bred for greater stamina and hunting ability. While the Lucas Terrier is generally more suited as a companion dog with a calmer temperament, the Sporting Lucas Terrier retains stronger working traits, being lively, outgoing, and playful.
