They are relatively new to the cat scene, having first been developed in the USA. Nevertheless, the Exotic has gained a large following in the UK, thanks to its adorable appearance, friendly, loving, if mischievous nature, and beautiful, luxurious coat.

Other exotic breeds include the Bengal, which resembles a miniature leopard, and the Egyptian Mau, the only naturally spotted domestic cat breed with ancient Egyptian origins.
