Caucasian Shepherds, also known as Caucasian Mountain Dog, Caucasian Ovcharka, Caucasian Owtcharka, Caucasian Sheepdog, are descendants of the old Molossians and thus extremely large, strong dogs with striking markings. The breed is relatively unknown in this country, but they are highly prized in their native countries such as Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and North Caucasus, where these handsome, large dogs are used to guard livestock herds. Recently, their popularity has increased, and for good reason.
