The Harlequin Rabbit, sometimes called the Clown of Rabbits, is a colourful breed of domestic rabbit originating in France in the 19th century. Unlike most rabbit breeds, the Harlequin is defined entirely by its striking coat pattern rather than its body shape or fur type. The ideal specimen displays a precise alternating two-tone colouring — traditionally orange and black — split evenly down the face and alternating across the ears, feet, and body. Two main varieties are recognised: the Japanese Harlequin, featuring orange paired with another colour, and the Magpie Harlequin, which replaces the orange with white.
