About East Sussex Smallholders East Sussex Smallholders is a small, family-run poultry farm based just outside Lewes in East Sussex. We specialise in supplying healthy, well-reared poultry to back-garden keepers, smallholders and hobby farmers, with a strong focus on temperament, welfare and practical suitability for real homes rather than purely show standards. We keep and rear a wide range of poultry on our smallholding and take pride in producing birds that are calm, hardy and well suited to life in gardens, paddocks and small farm environments. Our aim is to make poultry keeping accessible and enjoyable for both beginners and experienced keepers, offering clear, honest guidance alongside our birds. Birds We Sell We supply a broad range of poultry throughout the season, subject to availability, including: • Chickens – point-of-lay hens, growers and seasonal chicks • Hybrid laying hens for reliable egg production • Pure breed chickens including traditional and ornamental breeds such as Silkies, Polands, Pekins, Sablepoots and other popular garden breeds • Ducks including Aylesbury-style commercial white ducks, runners and seasonal ducklings • Quail – both egg and meat types, plus hatching eggs • Guinea fowl • Turkeys (seasonal) • Hatching eggs for chickens, ducks and quail, available for postal delivery We regularly hatch multiple batches during the season, allowing customers to reserve birds ahead of time or join future availability lists. Our Approach Animal welfare is at the heart of what we do. Birds are carefully monitored from hatch onwards, handled appropriately and raised with a focus on strong starts, good health and manageable temperaments. We do not rush birds out too young and are always happy to advise on suitability, housing requirements and what to expect at different stages of growth. We understand that not every bird is right for every setup, and we are open and realistic about this. Our goal is to help customers make informed choices that work for their space, experience level and expectations. Collections and Sales All live birds are collected in person from our farm near Lewes, East Sussex. This allows us to ensure birds travel safely and gives customers the opportunity to ask last-minute questions at collection. We do not offer delivery on live poultry. Hatching eggs can be sent by post via Royal Mail, carefully packed to give them the best possible chance during transit.
