Meet Jemma C.

My name is Jemma and I am based at Greenaways Kennels in rural Leicestershire. Greenaways is a 5-star licensed breeding kennels with excellent facilities, a professional set-up and a very hands-on approach to breeding and raising puppies properly. Dogs are a huge part of my everyday life. I live and work in the countryside and have a particular love for gundog breeds, especially Labradors and spaniels. Alongside Greenaways Kennels, I am also behind Belvden Spaniels, my spaniel line, which reflects my passion for capable, biddable, well-bred working-type dogs with good temperaments and trainable attitudes. Greenaways is not a casual or occasional set-up. Our 5-star licence reflects the high standards of care, welfare, facilities, cleanliness, record keeping and professionalism involved in how the kennels are run. Puppies are raised in a clean, safe, structured environment with proper routines, careful handling, good nutrition and close attention from birth. Health testing is non-negotiable here. I health test everything properly, not just a basic vet check. Every dog used for breeding must have the full amount of relevant testing for their breed. This includes DNA testing for all available and appropriate inherited conditions, plus the relevant clinical screening such as BVA/KC hip scoring, elbow scoring, eye testing and gonioscopy where applicable. I will not use one of my own dogs for breeding without full testing, and I will not use an outside stud unless he has been tested to the same standard. I believe responsible breeding starts long before puppies are born. Pairings are carefully considered for health, temperament, pedigree, working ability, trainability, type and suitability. I do not breed simply because a dog is nice-looking or much-loved. Those things matter, but they are not enough on their own. My aim is to bridge the gap between traditional working homes and suitable active family homes. I do have a preference for working homes or genuinely active homes for some working breeds, but I also understand that not every puppy will go into a full working environment. Many make wonderful family companions, beating dogs, picking-up dogs, training projects or all-round country dogs, provided they are placed with owners who understand their needs. I am selective about where my puppies go because the right match matters. A working-bred Labrador or spaniel can be a fantastic family dog in the right home, but they need time, training, structure and stimulation. I am always happy to have honest conversations with prospective owners about whether a puppy from one of my litters is likely to be the right fit. Puppies leave KC registered where applicable, microchipped, vet checked, wormed, flea treated as appropriate and raised on quality food. Every owner receives my extensive Greenaways puppy guide, covering settling in, feeding, routines, early training, socialisation, health care and general advice. I also offer ongoing buyer support, as responsible breeding does not stop when a puppy leaves. For those actively waiting for a puppy, I provide updates through the whelping and rearing process wherever possible, so future owners feel informed and involved as the litter grows. My goal is to produce healthy, well-bred, well-reared puppies with excellent temperaments and the potential to become much-loved family members, capable working companions, or both.
