Very reluctantly we are seeking to find a new 5-star home for our beloved 5 year-old pedigree neutered male Norfolk Terrier, Barney, due to he and our older male Norfolk not getting on. So for the sake of both dogs, we have made this extremely difficult decision. Barney was born in January 2021 (not March as the advert says – for some reason It wouldn’t let me put January!), is fully up to date on vaccinations, flea and worm treatment and has no known health problems (vet records can be transferred to the new owner’s vets on request). Barney is wonderfully friendly with people and has had some limited experience with children (although has never lived with them). He has not encountered cats. He has always been good with other dogs on walks, however, Barney likes to have all the attention to himself at home so we are looking for a home that has no other pets and is happy to stay that way. Barney is not used to being left alone for long so we are looking for a home where someone is at home most of the day and/or can come to work with the new owner (as he does currently with us). As is the case for most rehomed dog, Barney will not want to be left alone at all for the first few weeks, until he has thoroughly settled in, so it is important that any prospective new home can accommodate this. Barney is good on and off lead, his recall is good, and he never strays far from our side on a walk. He travels well and enjoys coming out on the tractor with me! Besides not getting on with our other Norfolk, Barney has no other known behavioural problems. Barney needs stripping at least twice a year and will need his nails trimming regularly. Barney currently eats Hardys complete (he also likes some of his food stuffed into Kongs in the evening) and will come with a small bag of this. If you wish to change his food it is important to keep him on the food he is used to for at least 2 weeks after rehoming. We are happy to answer any questions you have, and please do not be offended when we ask you lots of questions too! Please – no timewasters as this is a very very hard thing for us to do. If you need to ask permission from anyone (eg partner, landlord), please do this before making contact! Please note that this is not a first-come, first-served rehoming – we will only let Barney go to the perfect home and are not in a rush to find the right home. We will want to do a home-check (but this does not necessarily mean you need to be local to us in Dorchester – finding the right home for Barney is the only thing that matters to us), and we may require vet references. Barney will come with a contract stating that he must be returned to us if the rehoming does not work out. No contact from rehoming organisations please (except one of the big national charities), only from potential owners.
