This is Peter (formally known as Petra, until he started to crow and turn into a huge dinosaur).
Peter is a white La Fleche cockerel, aged 5 months. Peter looks evil in this photo, but couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, if you're looking for a cockerel with a loud, obnoxious crow, a fighting stance to protect his ladies and a confidence of steel, do not consider this chap.
Raised with bantams, he believes he is the size of one, and is thus nervous around anything bigger than a serama, although would be better placed with large fowl. When faced with a threat, he will run away at top speed. The little mini serama pictured with him is his buddy, and is far more defensive towards his ladies and with a much louder crow, which lasts all day. Peter sometimes manages to crow 4 times a day. On a good day.
Peter is a lovely bird who used to fly up to sit on my head when he was a baby; a practice I have since stopped due to him being the size of a dinosaur.
Peter will happily eat out of my hand and will run up to me. He is a darling boy, and I'm sad to give him up. But we only have space for 6 chickens, and the resident serama cockeral provides ample testosterone to last me many years.
