Cody is a gorgeous, affectionate and very intelligent 5-month-old Golden Retriever x Huntaway looking for a loving, experienced home through absolutely no fault of his own. He is a bright, energetic puppy who loves being outdoors, going for walks, sniffing, playing, training and learning new things. He already knows sit, down, place, stay, touch, paw, spin and a release cue, and he is making good progress with recall and retrieving. He is crate trained, travels in the car and has attended puppy training classes. He is very food motivated and loves having a job to do, so he would really thrive with someone who enjoys training and giving their dog plenty of mental and physical enrichment. Cody can be incredibly sweet and affectionate and has lots of lovely qualities, but he is also a large, lively puppy who still needs consistent training and guidance. His Huntaway side makes him clever, vocal and busy, so he would suit an active home that understands working or herding breeds. The main reason we are looking for a new home is that unfortunately he is not a suitable match for our cats. One of our cats is becoming increasingly fearful and defensive around him, and Cody has recently growled and snapped back when she has swiped at him. We have been managing them carefully with gates and leads, but we do not feel it is fair or safe for either of them to continue living this way. For this reason, Cody must go to a cat-free home. He can also become overexcited and mouthy, as many puppies do, so I would ideally like him to go to someone confident with larger young dogs who is happy to continue his training. A home with older dog-savvy children, or adults only, may be best. This is an incredibly difficult decision and finding the right home for Cody is much more important to us than finding one quickly. We would love him to go to someone who has the time, space and experience to help him grow into the brilliant dog we know he can be. We will be completely honest about his behaviour, routine and training and are happy to answer any questions from genuinely interested homes.
