Meet Stella, a beautiful 3.5 year old hound, who recently arrived in the UK. This sweet girl was found as a stray, most likely abandoned by a hunter. When she first arrived at a shelter in Cyprus, she was scared of her own shadow. It’s not hard to imagine why she trembled whenever someone came near - those who should have cared for her probably hurt her, neglected her, and left her hungry. Sadly, it’s a far too common story for hunting dogs in Cyprus. Their lives are often miserable, and for those with a gentle soul, it’s unbearable to even think about what they must go through.
The most beautiful thing about dogs is their ability to leave their pasts behind and truly live in the moment, which is what they do best. Stella has learned what it feels like to have a full belly, to feel a soft touch, and to hear a gentle, soothing voice. Stella isn’t one of those dogs that will compete for attention, but it’s obvious all she really longs for is the safety and security of a real home.
Stella’s ideal home would be a quiet and peaceful place. She’s easily spooked by loud noises, likely from her days as a hunting dog, so her environment should be calm and gentle to match her personality. She gets along great with all dogs. We think a home with another dog would be ideal. A companion dog could help her build trust with people around her and show her how to live as a house dog.
As Stella is a hound, it’s likely that, once she is fully settled in, she will need both exercise and mental stimulation to stay happy. She enjoys the few short walks she gets and absolutely loves a good sniff, putting her keen hound nose to work.
