About Otto
Otto is a handsome seven year old Beagle who originally came from Cyprus and was adopted amid the pandemic. He spent a while in foster with our Head of Adoptions, Eve, before travelling to the UK to meet his new family. Sadly, he is now seeking a new home due to the arrival of a new baby, which has disrupted the calm environment he was used to.
Otto is an affectionate, cheeky and characterful boy who has been a much loved member of his family for several years. He absolutely loves people and is happiest when he's receiving plenty of fuss. He enjoys curling up on the sofa for cuddles, sneaking onto a comfortable bed and finding the warmest spot in the house for an afternoon nap. He's a particular fan of sunshine, radiators and heated floors - you can take the dog out of Cyprus and all that! He hates the cold and the rain, and will always sidestep a puddle, and he’s also not a fan of loud noises, motorbikes, or fireworks. He's a funny little character with plenty of personality and a love of relaxation and home comforts.
When he's not enjoying a cosy afternoon indoors, Otto loves getting out and exploring. He's an adventurous boy who enjoys long walks, trips to cafés and pubs, car journeys and even lengthy hikes. As a typical Beagle, his nose is often glued to the ground and he loves investigating interesting scents. He walks well on the lead, but his recall is less reliable in open countryside.
Otto is generally very sociable with people and other dogs. He enjoys meeting his canine friends in the park and has happily spent holidays alongside other family dogs. He could potentially live with another calm, compatible dog, although he can occasionally be uncomfortable around larger entire males. He's also comfortable with visitors, even if he likes to announce their arrival with a bark! Otto knows his basic commands, is housetrained and is very responsive to training, especially when tasty treats are involved.
One area where Otto needs understanding and guidance is his tendency to become possessive over toys. He enjoys collecting things and can become defensive if someone tries to take them away. His family have found that exchanging items for treats works well, but this is something his new adopters will need to manage carefully.
Otto would love a home with people who enjoy being outdoors but are equally happy to spend a relaxed afternoon together. He has lots of affection to give and would thrive with an adopter who can offer him companionship, enjoyable walks and consistent boundaries around his toys. His family adore him and have not made the decision to rehome him lightly, but they know that a quieter home without young children will allow him to feel more comfortable.
We know just how much Otto has so much to offer as a funny, affectionate and adventurous companion, and he will happily fill his days with sniffing, exploring and finding the perfect place to curl up beside his favourite people.
