📍 Located: Coalville LE67, Leicestershire
🌟 RBU, post-adoption support & 4 weeks insurance provided upon adoption (on request) 🌟
🦁 Small body, HUGE personality! Meet Rusty (previously Bonik), around 4-year-old small Pekingese × Chihuahua-type boy who seems to have inherited the BIG personalities of both breeds! 😁
At home, Rusty is an affectionate, devoted little teddy bear who loves his family, enjoys cuddles and has a wonderfully funny character. But outside, especially around unfamiliar dogs, this little gentleman can turn into a rather feisty lion!
Rusty arrived in the UK in May and has been living with a loving family in their seventies who have grown very attached to him. At home, he is their affectionate companion, and they genuinely love him. But managing his intense reactions on walks has become increasingly difficult and physically challenging for them. They are heartbroken to let him go, but they feel their busy environment is not suitable for him, and they hope we can find someone who can help him feel more confident and secure.

💔 Rescue Story
Rusty's early life in Ukraine was heartbreaking. He was kept on a short chain beside a tiny wooden shelter, exposed to freezing winters, with very little food or care. When rescued, he finally discovered warmth, kindness and what it means to be loved.
In May, he travelled to the UK and joined his current family. He has developed a beautiful bond with them, but the busy town environment has proved extremely challenging for him.
🐾 More About Rusty
His family say:
"He's very affectionate with us. We can do almost anything with him. He obviously trusts us. He's never made a mess in the house and sleeps in his bed at night without issues. He's playful and has a funny character."
❤️ And that is the Rusty they know and love!
Unfortunately, walks are a completely different story. Rusty reacts intensely to other dogs, barking, lunging, twisting and pulling on his lead. Once overwhelmed, even treats cannot distract him. He can also react defensively towards unfamiliar people.
There have been three incidents where Rusty snapped at people and made contact without drawing blood (never happen with his family, twice it was someone they met on walks and once with visitor). His family currently manage visitors by keeping him separated in his safe space.
🏡 Ideal Home
Rusty needs a CONFIDENT and PATIENT family, ideally in a peaceful rural or quiet village setting where encounters with unfamiliar dogs can be minimised.
🏡 An adult home with a secure garden, no other pets and people who understand reactive dogs would be ideal. At least Rusty is a very small dog and not strong enough.
For someone who understands little dogs with big feelings, he could become a wonderfully devoted companion.
💞 Behind that feisty little lion is a dog who has already experienced so much hardship and who desperately deserves a peaceful life. Could you offer Rusty a quiet little kingdom where he can finally relax and simply be loved? 🦁💙
🩺 Health Information
Rusty is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, with no known ongoing medical conditions. He was tested for C. Brucella before travelling to the UK (licensed laboratory certificate provided).
