Description
Shadow is a Podenco Maneto from Spain. They are a small, compact version of the breed with short Dachshund type legs.
He is a really affectionate young dog who has had a tough start in life. He has already been adopted and rehomed more than once, not because he isn’t a wonderful dog but because he is looking for a special kind of home to help him thrive. He is looking for someone patient, committed and ready to work with him so he can finally settle and really blossom.
He’s currently in a long term foster and is doing really well. He’s a playful boy with a big heart and when he relaxes he is a real joy. He loves to snuggle up with humans and other dogs and is really happy to snooze the day away! He is such an affectionate boy. He also has a real cheeky side - a big personality in a small package. He currently shares his home with another dog who he gets along well with. He could live with another dog or as an only dog. He isn’t suitable for cats.
He is currently working through some challenges including anxiety, shadow chasing in the home and reactivity towards unfamiliar dogs on walks. He is already making good progress with a behaviour plan and anxiety medication (which we can cover) and we have a behaviourist who will continue to support in any new home. With commitment and consistency, Shadow is showing that he can really succeed. We are looking for a home in a rural or small town setting ideally so his walks can stay nice and calm. He has lived happily with children before and we feel a home with children 12+ would work for him.
Above all, Shadow needs stability and someone who will stick with him through any ups and downs as he continues his journey. He is vaccinated, and tested negative for all Mediterranean diseases. He is not currently neutered and we will continue to review this and make the decision as the right time for him in the future.
