Ralph – Border Collie × Cockapoo – Loving Young Male – Experienced, Active Home Wanted
Ralph is a lovely young male Border Collie × Cockapoo looking for a new home where he can get the time, attention, exercise and training that a young, intelligent and energetic dog deserves.
This is a very difficult decision for us. Ralph is a genuinely lovely dog and we have enjoyed having him enormously. However, with two young children, another baby due in January and a very busy family life, we have realised that a dog-focused home would ultimately be a better fit for Ralph.
About Ralph
Ralph is affectionate, friendly and very people-oriented. He enjoys being around people and particularly enjoys getting out for walks and exploring.
He is intelligent and learns quickly, but he is still a young dog and is very much an adolescent. He therefore needs continued training and someone who understands that he isn’t yet a completely finished, easy adult dog.
He currently lives with two young children (under 5) and is used to normal family life.
He is generally very good at settling when asked and is happy spending periods of the day resting in his own area. He has a good routine, sleeps through the night without disturbing the family and is comfortable being left to settle while the family is busy or need to go out.
Things a new owner needs to understand
Ralph is still excitable and needs continued work on his manners and impulse control. He can become very excited around new people and dogs and his recall is not yet reliable around distractions, particularly when there are other dogs, people or wildlife around however he mostly returns when no distractions are present. (E.g the garden, in the house)
At home he is still learning to be a calm, trustworthy house dog. He can be tempted by children’s food and will pick up or chew loose things that he shouldn’t. This is improving with training, but his new owner needs to be prepared to continue that work rather than expecting a completely finished dog.
We believe these are very manageable and normal behaviours and will stop overtime.
The home we’re looking for
We are looking for someone who genuinely wants a young, active and intelligent dog and understands the commitment involved.
An ideal home would have:
• Previous experience with dogs, particularly energetic or working breeds
• Time every day for exercise, training and interaction
• A secure garden
• An active lifestyle where Ralph can be involved in walks and outdoor activities
• Patience to continue his training into adulthood
• An understanding that a young Border Collie cross needs both physical and mental stimulation
• Plenty of companionship and not being left alone for very long periods. E.g someone who is home a lot.
A dog-experienced home would be strongly preferred.
We are not necessarily looking for someone who has owned exactly this cross before. What matters most is that the person’s lifestyle genuinely suits Ralph’s rather than the current setup he has.
