Description
Gus is a 3.5yrs old beautiful, affectionate Jack Russell who loves company, cuddles and being close to his person. He has been a much-loved part of my family (mostly just me) for three and a half years, and writing this advert is heartbreaking.
He has always known a loving home, but physically he had a difficult start. Gus grew up with painful luxating patellas in both back knees, and I have supported him through two operations and their recoveries. Both surgeries have gone really well. His discomfort and ongoing needs are now being managed with veterinary support, and he deserves the chance to enjoy this next chapter in the right home.
Gus enjoys short, regular walks, opportunities to sniff and explore, gentle games (especially a ball carefully rolled) and mental stimulation. He would suit someone who enjoys little outings and lots of companionship rather than long, strenuous walks. At home, he loves affection and sofa cuddles, and he is not an excessive barker.
Like many Jack Russells, Gus can become very excited. He responds well to the calm, consistent techniques we have learned through his behaviourist, including calm greetings and returns home. He is making progress and needs someone willing to continue that approach patiently.
To be clear about his history: Gus has nipped his familiar dog walkers on a few occasions when overexcited. They know him well and understand these incidents as excitement-related. He has never nipped a child and has been lovely with the children he has spent time with, including young children. I will happily discuss exactly what happened with prospective owners, along with the routines that help him manage his excitement.
Gus is currently benefiting from prescribed medication to support his emotional wellbeing. Any future changes would need to be guided by his vet and behaviourist, so his new owner must be comfortable continuing his treatment and reviews.
I am seeking a home where Gus will be the only dog. He has lived with my much older dog for most of his life, but following his operations their relationship became more difficult. He can be protective of food, toys and attention, and can become reactive around other dogs. My older dog’s needs have also increased, and I believe Gus would benefit from having his own space and his person’s undivided attention.
His ideal home would offer: • Someone around for much of the day, with no routine absences longer than four hours. • Time to build up being left gradually as he settles. • Short, regular walks and enjoyable mental stimulation. • A calm, consistent approach to his ongoing training. • Plenty of affection and cuddles. • Continued veterinary care and an understanding of his medical history. • Ideally, experience with terriers or dogs with similar needs.
My work and life circumstances have changed, and this decision has involved a great deal of thought. Gus is deeply loved, and I believe the right home could give him the individual attention and settled routine he deserves.
I want a gradual, carefully planned home-to-home transition. Prospective owners would need to meet Gus several times, welcome a visit from me and allow time for us all to feel confident that the match is right. I will share his veterinary and behavioural history, explain what works for him and support a thoughtful handover. This will not be a rushed rehoming.
If you think you could offer my lovely boy his forever home, please tell me about yourself, your household, your experience with dogs and what everyday life with you would look like. Finding the right home matters far more than finding one quickly.
