💙 WALT: ONE-YEAR-OLD SAINT BERNARD SEEKING AN EXPERIENCED, ADULT-ONLY HOME 💙 This is an incredibly difficult advert to write because Walt is a much-loved member of our family. However, following a significant change in our family circumstances, we are looking for a very special home where his needs can be fully met. Walt is a beautiful, affectionate one-year-old Saint Bernard. He loves being close to his people, enjoys affection and absolutely loves going for walks. He has a wonderful personality and deserves a home where he can receive plenty of attention and enjoy being part of family life. Unfortunately, our daughter and newborn granddaughter are now living with us. The layout of our home makes it extremely difficult to keep Walt safely separated from the baby without significantly restricting him. This is not a fair or sustainable situation for Walt, and we cannot risk an incident occurring. We want to be completely honest about the behaviour that concerns us. Walt can be stubborn and may refuse to move, typical of Saints, however, if someone takes hold of his collar or physically tries to encourage him to move, he may put his mouth around their arm or leg and apply pressure. He has never bitten anyone or broken the skin, but because of his size and strength, this is not behaviour we can risk around a baby or child. He also doesn't like people he doesn't know coming in to his house and will bark aggresively but he hasn't bitten. For this reason, Walt must go to an adult-only home with no resident or visiting children. We are specifically looking for people who have previous experience of owning Saint Bernards and understand the needs, strength and behaviour of the breed. His new owners must be confident managing a giant-breed dog using calm, appropriate handling rather than physical confrontation. Walt needs: An experienced, adult-only home Owners with previous Saint Bernard experience No resident or visiting children Patient and confident handling A secure garden and sufficient space for a giant breed Regular walks, affection and companionship A permanent home where he can be fully included in family life We have tried very hard to make our current arrangements work through training, management and separation. However, Walt is now spending increasing amounts of time restricted from parts of the home, and we do not believe this is fair to him. This is not a “******************” situation. We will carefully consider any potential home, ask questions and have a full and honest conversation about Walt’s needs and behaviour. We would also want to meet prospective adopters and see where he would be living. We love Walt enormously and want to make the responsible decision before anything happens. Finding the right, experienced Saint Bernard home is far more important than finding him a home quickly.
