Cyprus, now in Southampton Reason for rehoming: Not enough time due to young children About Teddy Teddy is a beautiful six year old Alaskan Malamute who came from Cyprus back in 2021. He originally came into our care when his first owner took him to a pet hotel in Cyprus and subsequently left there when he decided he wasn’t going to be able to keep him anymore. Teddy’s life in the UK then got off to a poor start when he was quickly surrendered back to us due to a change of circumstances, and now, we’re looking for a new home yet again for him. Sadly, following the arrival of a second child, his family are no longer able to give him the time and attention he deserves. They are now looking for an active home where Teddy can be included in family life and enjoy all the walks, playtime and companionship he loves. They know Teddy needs more than they can offer, and they just want him to be happy and adored. Teddy has a wonderful personality and is a friendly, sociable boy who would happily make friends with everyone he meets. He can get a little overexcited when visitors arrive, as he is so keen to say hello, but he is always friendly in his intentions. He can also be quite persistent when it comes to boundaries, particularly with people he doesn't see regularly, so his new family should be comfortable providing clear and consistent guidance. Although Teddy has plenty of energy and loves a good walk, he is also very happy to settle down and relax afterwards. He enjoys running, chasing a ball and having plenty of opportunities to play, but in true Malamute fashion, he can become bored if every walk follows the same route. A home that enjoys mixing things up and giving him new places to explore would suit him beautifully. He loves being involved in whatever his family are doing and would thrive with people who have the time to include him in their daily lives. Teddy has been brilliant with children, including his own family's young children. He is gentle when playing and seems very aware of how small they are. If things become a little too much for him, he is happy to take himself away somewhere quiet to rest. He has shown a lovely understanding of children and would make a wonderful companion in a family that can continue to respect his space and needs. Teddy enjoys the company of other dogs, although he can be selective about who he gets along with. He previously lived happily with another Underdog and was respectful of her boundaries. Homes with other resident dogs would need to meet Teddy beforehand, to ensure he was friendly and comfortable with their resident dog, as he will not necessarily be suited to every canine companion. Teddy is generally good on the lead and is happy to walk at your pace, although he can pull at times. He is comfortable wearing a collar, harness or Halti head harness. He has had some off lead time in open areas and has reasonable recall, but can be distracted by squirrels and other wildlife, so secure areas are the safest option, particularly around woods. He knows his basic commands, including sit, stay and paw, and is a willing learner who enjoys being taught. He is also housetrained and crate trained. Teddy is looking for an active, loving home where he can enjoy plenty of walks, playtime and company. Whilst Malamute experience is not compulsory, it is important to recognise the needs and temperament of the breed. He has a lovely mix of enthusiasm and affection, with the ability to settle happily after a busy day, and with a family who can include him in their adventures, provide consistent boundaries and understand his individual needs, he has so much to offer as a loyal and entertaining companion.
