Description
🐾 Meet Dougie 🐾
Dougie is around 3 years old and has grown into a friendly, confident and well-balanced dog with a big personality and a playful, adventurous nature.
He has spent far too long in kennels, but as he has matured and left those teenage years behind, we’ve seen a real change in him. Dougie is ready for the next chapter – a home of his own with someone who understands larger, strong dogs and can give him the active life he would absolutely love.
❤️ About Dougie
Dougie loves people and enjoys being part of whatever is going on. He greets the people he knows enthusiastically and is affectionate with both men and women.
He loves his toys, enjoys running and exploring and would be a fantastic companion for someone who spends plenty of time outdoors. We can picture him accompanying his owner on long walks, hill walking and adventures, and with some training he could potentially make a great running companion too.
He is intelligent, food motivated and enjoys training, so he responds well to someone who gives him clear guidance and consistency.
Dougie is also excellent in the car and travels really well, making him a great candidate for someone who wants a dog to join them on days out and adventures.
🐕 Other dogs
Dougie can be sociable with some dogs, but he isn’t always comfortable with every dog he meets. For that reason, we are looking for a home where Dougie will be the only dog and his owner can concentrate on him.
🏡 Dougie’s ideal home
We think Dougie would thrive with a strong, active and experienced owner – perhaps an active man or couple – who are confident handling larger breeds and understand the importance of routine, boundaries and sensible management.
His ideal home will have:
🐾 A large, secure garden with plenty of room to run and play
🐾 An active lifestyle with lots of exercise and adventures
🐾 Experience with larger breeds – rescue experience would be a bonus
🐾 Someone around for a good proportion of the time
🐾 No children and no plans for children in the next few years
🐾 No other dogs in the home
Dougie is confident around traffic and everyday noises, so he doesn’t need to live in the middle of nowhere. A town, village or rural home could all suit him with the right person.
Dougie does have some guardian-breed characteristics, so his new owner should understand that he may become protective of his people or home as he settles and bonds, although this is not behaviour we are currently seeing in kennels.
He is fully muzzle trained and comfortable wearing one. He has also learned to behave very well at the vets, so his muzzle is now more of a sensible precaution than a necessity.
❤️ Most importantly, Dougie is ready.
He’s growing out of his adolescent stage and becoming a much more settled, sociable dog. What he needs now is someone capable of giving a big, strong and intelligent dog the exercise, guidance and companionship he needs.
For the right person, we think Dougie could be an incredibly loyal, fun and rewarding companion – the sort of dog who will happily jump in the car and head off on the next adventure with you.
