Millipede Care Guide:
Millipedes need a deep layer of substrate for them to burrow and moult, you can buy millipede-specific substrate online or use a mix of top soil, dead leaves and decaying wood for them to munch on. They also like to eat vegetables such as cucumber, apple, courgette, leafy greens, tomato, etc. I keep part of the substrate damp to help maintain humidity. I also recommend taping the heat mat to the side of the tub during colder months (not really needed at the moment due to the heat). Cuttlefish bones can also be provided for calcium. Remeber to wash your hands after handling as millipedes often secrete liquid as a defense, this is harmless but it can stain the skin. Millipedes also have small mites that live on them that help keep them clean, do not worry about this or remove the mites. The tub setup I provide will already have the appropriate substrate, a heat mat and a cuttlefish bone. The tub will not need cleaning out much, maybe a few times a year, or you can buy clean-up bugs such as springtails which will naturally keep the tub clean without effort. Just make sure to remove any uneaten vegetetables.
