🐶 Dexter is about 8.5-year-old Spitz cross boy (small medium size, not tiny one) who is looking for a new home FOSTER OR FOSTER TO ADOPT.
🐶 Dexter is a deeply bonded, intelligent little companion. He forms strong attachments to his people and thrives when he feels secure and understood. Very playful and young for his age. Very loyal. Very intelligent. Needs to be only dog, as has bad food guarding with dogs. Also reacts on walks to dogs, but with correct introduction enjoys playing with dogs.

🐶 Dexter originally came into rescue due to his owner’s declining health. After being taken on a trial, it became apparent that his needs were more complex than expected, particularly around training consistency and food boundaries alongside another dog in the home. The family made the decision to return him so he can find a better-matched environment. He is looking for a Foster or Foster to Adopt.
🐾 More About Dexter
🐶 Dexter loves his humans and enjoys cuddles, play time and being close to his people. He walks well on the lead and has excellent stamina, happily joining several walks a day and enjoying long outings. He has come various across dogs and people on walks and is generally good but there has been a couple occasions where he will bark at the other dog if they aren’t friendly. The best thing is to keep him close and walk ahead unless the other dog wants to interact.
When relaxed, he will chill at home. There are moments where he will get a burst of energy but he is good at using his squeaky toys to calm himself down (though occasionally you need to remind him to get his toy). He has recently been introduced to a snuffle ball and it seems to be a good alternative to his licky mats - prevents guarding yet keeps him occupied.
🐶 Dexter can be alert and vocal, especially when hearing noises. He needs some reassurances that he is safe. Dexter is very food motivated and currently struggles with guarding food around other dog. If he gains access to another dog’s food and someone tries to remove it, he may growl or attempt to snap. This will need experienced, calm management and positive training if he will be living with another dog.
🐶 Dexter is generally good at being lifted and getting his paws wipes but you need to communicate this with him so he isn’t startled. He communicates his discomfort clearly and responds well to gentle guidance and reward-based interaction. He enjoys getting his fur brushed - when he sees the brush, he will sit and lay down for you.
🐶 Dexter is a sweet loyal boy who loves deeply, enjoys affection, and will flourish with the right people, routine and continued training.

🐶 Dexter needs an understanding home that is active and committed to helping him progress with training, especially around boundaries. He would suit a calm household with adults or older children who respect his space, ideally in a home where his barking won’t cause issues. He may live with another suitable dog, preferably one confident and playful rather than very calm or elderly. Dexter will thrive with routine, consistency, kind handling and people who see his sensitivity and intelligence for what they are.
