Description
Juvenile Kenyan Sand Boa for sale, we think female. Sex hasn’t been officially confirmed, but our friends have a male clutchmate and he’s much smaller. Sexual dimorphism would strongly suggest she’s female. We’ve had her since August when she was a hatching at 8g, she’s now 20g and a very beautiful girl. She was somewhat mis-sold to us by a breeder who said that KSBs are great beginner snakes. I would argue they’re not. Crumpet is very typical of the breed, some days you can handle her and she’s fine, other days she’s bluff striking everywhere and doesn’t want to know. The problem for us is that she’s my daughter’s snake and my daughter is scared of her and won’t handle her, which isn’t the best outcome for Crumpet as she needs to be health checked regularly at the very least. I think you shouldn’t own a snake you’re too scared to handle, so we’re looking for a new family for Crumpet who will love her, tell her what a pretty girl she is and not worry about the posturing.
She’s a fabulous eater, we tong feed her one large pinkie a week and then a small pinkie midweek if she’s hungry. She’s very clear in her behaviour when she’s hungry and only went on hunger strike once when we, somewhat impertinently, insisted that she needed to go into her to her new (and current home – which she’s now very happy in) but she had a two week strop about it. She poos and sheds well, we only had one stuck shed and that was our fault when we lost control of the humidity in the new bigger viv and it coincided with a shed. We put her in a humid hide, let her zoom around it for an hour and she got it all off. Life is actually pretty good for Crumpet, we can see the holes in the bedding where she explores at night, and she loves hanging out on her warm side. In the mornings we often find her curled up in the hide (see photo), but she’ll go and bury herself as soon as it’s light and that's normal for KSBs. Her brother is an escape-artist, but she isn’t, she likes her home comforts.
She comes with everything she currently uses, so she’s fully set up, you just need bedding and food. She’s in a 1.5ft wood/glass viv with a new heatmat and new Habistat thermostat. All décor and hides and other sundry equipment are included, along with the breeder box for when she’s being cleaned out. Her current bedding is unscented Auboise, very similar to Aspen.
Obviously she ‘ll need to be upgraded to a bigger viv as she grows, and if she is female then that could be about 4ft I believe, but she gets very afraid of big spaces so I wouldn’t rush it.
We’d be very happy to hear from anyone that would like to come and visit our sassy little KSB to see if she’s right for you.
