Description
‘Pacino’ on account of his gangster
looking face only instead he’s a big
softie- couldn’t hurt a fly- living
with dogs & other cats ©
Let me introduce myself
“I’m called ‘Pacino’ & I also go by the
name of ‘Whitey’ to my friends. Back in
December of 25’ though I prefer not to
think back to those times, I turned up in
someone’s yard. It’s all a bit of a blur
though I seem to recall that someone
abandoned me like a used tissue. I was in
a bad way and so very hungry. I’d
succumbed to the perils of nature and
man and really wasn’t sure I’d get
through the winter. They left me alone in
the deep snow with not enough meat on
my bones to keep me warm. A kind lady
that the charity knows tried to find
someone who might take me in by posting
to social media and that’s when leesa
spotted me. Unfortunately not long after
that I disappeared again - or at least they
thought I had- I just didn’t know they
wanted to help me and had crawled off
before they could bundle me up in their
arms. I went looking for food and shelter.
Luckily I turned up again in their garden
and this time they managed to get me
safe knowing that the charity would step
in to try to find a good adopter. I’ve
always been friendly and easy to handle
it’s just there are so many cats and dogs
to help that we can’t all be saved. I’m
staying with the lady whose garden I
ended up in - she takes very good care of
me & leesa has covered the initial vet bill
out of her own pocket & sent a
contribution towards other ongoing costs
as she had encouraged the lady to take me in having seen how desperate I
looked. I’m adorable & impossibly
affectionate.
My home describes me like this:-“He still
looks a bit scruffy, but he is such a
wonderful cat. Very friendly with dogs, cats
people.”
I think my face makes me look unique & i’m
told the girls like this kind of look. I am a
charmer at the distinguished age of 4-5yrs
but I’m no bad boy as I’m just too soft and
loving to make the grade. As I’m not a baby
I don’t have the annoying qualities of a
young kitten if you have a resident cat
looking for a calmer spirit. I live indoors
because otherwise I’m at risk because the
area I’m in might poison me &/or I’ll get
hurt. It’s important we’re kept safe. I’m
looking for my place in this world and whilst
this feels like home I know they will be able
to help other cats if I find the person who
will cherish me forever. I’ve never had that.
I'm Adopting A Cat
If you are adopting a cat from Break The
Chains, many of the same rules apply,
but here are a few rules to help your cat
adapt to their new life.
!
Six weeks should be allowed before
letting a new cat outside -even if they are
used to being an outside cat. This advice
was given by a lady with over thirty cats and
many years experience of rescuing them.
!
If you wish to keep your cat indoors
permanently, consider having a 'catio' built
where they can enjoy the fresh air. Have
different levels where they can climb
administration rest.
!
An old wives tale which works, is to
smear a little butter on their front paws
when they arrive – they will wash it off and
feel more relaxed.
!
I personally don't agree with collars on
cats. They can get snared in branches etc.
!
Put a baby gate in place to separate your dogs from your cat until they are used to
each other, it also provides a quick retreat
safe place for the feline.
!
Do not give them milk only water as milk
isn't healthy for them.
!
ALWAYS feed cats away from dogs and
preferably on a higher surface.
!
Consider installing a cat flap to make
things easy for yourselves
and the puss once the six week period is up.
BTC can check in advance if a cat is used to
being allowed outside or not. Feel free to
ask us about your chosen cat.
!
Refer to the section on 'microchips'
which will also be relevant to your cat which
will be in the ‘Welcome Pack’ when you
adopt from us
!
Remember, just like any new pet, cats
can be 'upset' by the new
environment they find themselves
transported to. They may hide
and will need time before they feel secure
enough to let you pet them. It’s a good idea
to provide an enclosed area, like a box with
a hole cut out or a ready made cat igloo.
Boxes are much favoured by
cats and if you turn a sturdy one upside
down and cut out a 'hole' chances are the
cat will retreat into it and feel safe. Cat
trees are also great because felines feel at
their safest if off ground level.
They love a high vantage point. Unlike dogs,
most cats are territorial
focused, not people focused. There are
always exceptions, but on the whole, a cat
will try to get back to its territory not its
owner hence the six weeks guidance.
Patience is very important with cats, they
can be skitted easily and it's difficult to
gain their trust if they get scared.
!
We encourage you to read through the
app/pack for dogs when you adopt from us
as a lot of the information regarding water
and food for example (have access to water
at all times including through the night) is
transitional to your new cat as well. Many cats like to graze throughout the day for
instance.
!
