Description
3 yr old male Irish setter, KC reg but will not be rehomed with papers to avoid breeding. Prince is a handsome, lovable boy who came into our family at 9 was of age at a time of bereavement.
He is a little shadow, loves being with you. He loves to please and learn new new tricks and skills.
He absolutely adores children having been raised alongside my 3 yr old great granddaughter, he is incredibly gentle with her and loves playing ball and games with her.
He lives with another dog (Shetland sheepdog) and mixes well with family dogs.
He can pull on the lead, he is big boy, but tolerates a head collar/harness for easier control on walks. His recall is a work in progress , although he will recall to a flirt stick. His recall is more reliable when with another dog who recalls well (ie my daughter’s spaniel). He can be unpredictable when out walking especially if I am alone. Our trainer puts this down predominantly to nerves and anxiety but this could be owner fed from me. He wants to play with other dogs but is quite bouncy.
He unfortunately still likes to mouth me, this is only me and he has never mouthed anyone else. We put this down to him being overprotective of me and seeing me as property, this is understandable given the circumstances when I homed him. My grandsons/ granddaughters can walk him or stay here alone with him and he is absolutely fine.
It is with great sadness that I have had to make this decision and it is done with the best interests of Prince, but due to my declining health I am not strong enough mentally or physically to handle him or give him what he needs any longer, and feel he would benefit from a home with people who know the breed, and those who can provide the exercise and mental stimulation he so desperately needs.
Thankyou for reading if you’ve got this far,
Please get in touch if you feel you could give the Prince the home he deserves or to discuss anything further, I am happy to talk over any concerns.
