Description
It is with a truly heavy heart that I am having to rehome my 9 month old male Border Collie. This is not a decision I have made lightly, and it is entirely due to circumstances beyond my control.
He has been deeply loved and, in honesty, probably too well loved and spoiled, and I say that with regret. We have given him constant affection and attention, but this has unintentionally made his expectations and needs very intense. In that sense, I feel we have not set him up as well as we should have for the kind of structured working life he actually needs.
He is a beautiful, intelligent, affectionate dog with enormous energy and drive. He is fully house trained and crate trained, and he is extremely bonded to people. He has been raised in a home full of kindness and love, and he is very much “my baby”, which is why this is so incredibly painful.
However, he is also a very high-demand working-line Border Collie.
He needs constant physical and mental stimulation, and if he does not receive it, he becomes frustrated, vocal, and difficult to settle. He will bark and cry when under-stimulated. He is not an easy or relaxed pet dog and should not be underestimated.
He is not reliable off lead and will not come back when called, even with training. For that reason, he must always be in secure environments.
He is good with other dogs, though he can be possessive over food and bones, so management is required. He is not suitable for a home with cats.
He has been around children and is affectionate with them, but due to his energy and boisterous nature, a child-free or older dog-experienced home would be best.
The right person will be able to train him to a very high standard, and he has the potential to be an incredible dog, but he will take time, patience, consistency, and genuine experience with strong working breeds.
Requirements for any potential home are strict:
• Proven experience with Border Collies or working breeds (not general dog ownership)
• A farm, land, or secure large rural space where he can safely exercise and work
• A lifestyle that can meet his high physical AND mental stimulation needs every day
• No cats
• Willingness and capability to continue structured training and management
• Understanding that he is a working dog in temperament and needs, not a companion lap dog
I will require proof of experience and living setup (including photos/videos and discussion) and will not be taking anyone at face value. I am too afraid for him ending up in the wrong hands, and I hope people can understand that this level of caution comes from love, not control.
He is like my child, and I am devastated to be writing this. My only priority now is finding him the correct home where he will be safe, understood, and given the life he truly needs to thrive.
Serious enquiries only. Please only contact me if you fully meet the requirements.
