The Ragdoll is a very popular cat, those big blue eyes, a sweet face, silky coat and heart-melting soul. In return for their loyalty, the only thing the Ragdoll asks is to be part of your world. They love to be around people and the more love and attention you give to a Raggie, as they are affectionately known, the more love and attention you get back. Known for their dog like personalities Ragdolls follow you everywhere, you can teach them to play fetch and you can even harness train them!
Underneath the semi-longhaired coats and distinctive markings, there's a cat of substance with a muscular body. Large and playful they may be, but Ragdolls are well-known for their easygoing, 'that's life' attitude
Ragdolls should never be allowed to free roam. They are too trusting and do not have great outdoor skills. If left to wander they are at risk of a Road traffic accident, theft, cruelty, poisoning etc. They are not aggressive cats either and wouldn't defend themselves if attacked by another cat. Free roaming also puts them at risk of contracting incurable, fatal diseases, such as FIV (similar to HIV in humans) and FeLV (feline infectious leukaemia). Most Ragdolls will live happily indoors, but if you do decide you wish your Ragdoll to have outside access, it should always be supervised and in a secure garden or purpose-built enclosure.
A sensitive breed, Ragdolls will suffer if left alone for long periods on their own and if they are not kept entertained. If you work full time and youāre out of the house for long periods of time then one lone Ragdoll would become very depressed and lonely. They need company, whether it be human or another furry friend. Please note I won't place a single kitten into a home if you do work full time and they will be left alone without a friend.
When it comes to coat care, Ragdolls need a brush at least a couple of times a week, particularly under the legs, to prevent their coats from matting. Ragdolls usually like to be groomed and, as with many of the longer-coated breeds, tend to look their best in the winter with their fluffy ruffs and knickerbockers. The best brushes are metal combs and slicker brushes . These can all be found on Amazon. Please do not ever use a furminator grooming tool as it rips their fur and destroys their coats.
I specialise in mink and sepia Cherubim Ragdolls but still do have the odd traditional colourpoint kitten.
