📖 Rescue Story
Barry’s life changed forever when his owner passed away, leaving him without the home he knew. He was found fending for himself among larger dogs, scavenging for food. Rescued and brought from war-torn Ukraine to the UK, he hoped for stability and love. He has now been in the UK for eight months, lives in a flat and is cared for in a home where his needs have been met, but it’s clear he needs a quieter environment away from the bustle of city life. London is too over stimulating for him.
🐕 More Details
Barry is calm and well-behaved at home. He doesn’t bark when the doorbell rings or when left alone, is housetrained, and quickly adapted to a routine. He loves his walks, is energetic outdoors, and enjoys running—but he does not enjoy play and is fussy with food, preferring varied home-cooked meals over kibble.
He is reactive to other dogs and will lunge and attempt to bite if they come too close. He also reacts to certain triggers such as boots, loud bikes, and people on narrow paths, sometimes going for feet. In busy areas, this can be difficult to manage, so he will do best in a quiet location away from heavy foot traffic and other dogs. Barry is reactive with coming guests and children, so he must live in an adult-only home with no visiting children.
With people he trusts, Barry is affectionate in his own way. He enjoys being invited for attention but is also content to spend time in his bed or on a cool floor. He accepts being brushed and bathed, provided it’s done gently, and loves his harness to be put on him.
“He’s been amazing in the flat with just me alone. Doesn’t bark when the door goes, doesn’t bark or whine when you leave him for 1-2 hours. Is very calm.”
🏡 Ideal Family
Barry needs to be the only pet in a calm, quiet, adult-only home, ideally in a rural or semi-rural area. An experienced owner—ideally with knowledge of managing reactive dogs—will give him the structure and security he needs. A predictable routine, space to relax, and careful management of his triggers will help him thrive.
🩺 Health Information
Barry is fully healthy. Neutered. Has all core vaccines done, microchipped. Recently had five teeth removed due to decay.
